Now Murcia states that the council bet on ethical banking and abandon traditional banking (25/04/2016)

The municipal formation poses measures like every time a loan is amortized with a traditional bank to close the account and end the relationship with that entity, or new bank accounts are not opened or new products contracted in such firms

MURCIA NOW argues that the City Council progressively detached from its links with traditional banks to establish, instead, relations with the so-called ethical banking.

Thus the municipal formation suggests that each time a loan is amortized with a traditional bank to close the account and the relationship with that entity is completed, or new bank accounts are not opened or new products contracted in such firms.

These are some of the measures now defend Murcia through a motion at the next plenary.

Luis Bermejo said that "in antithesis to the perverse financial system prevailing in recent years there have been various initiatives worldwide and today are a reality. We speak of ethical banking. Its aim is to recover the management of savings and direct them to projects and activities that generate a positive social impact, ie, support businesses and social, environmental, cultural and humanitarian projects, and pay special attention to make resources available to the poorest people and organizations working with and for them".

The mayor also recalled that "the current economic crisis, caused precisely by the same financial system has increased the difficulties of access to credit, putting serious strain on these entities, the jobs created and the services of social interest They perform ".

Therefore, says Bermejo that "in this context of economic crisis and risks of social cohesion, public authorities take on a leading role in the search for alternatives to help launch job-creating economic initiatives, environmentally friendly and providers of necessary social services, to help improve social cohesion. the participation of public authorities is a fundamental step for the consolidation and visibility of ethical banking among citizens ".

Returning to the motion now Murcia take the next plenary session, the council explains that "in cases where it is not possible that, as ordered, to repay a loan from a traditional bank to close the account and end the relationship with the firm must make a report showing that impossibility, to be evaluated by local groups. "

The proposal now Murcia also records that the Municipal Government urged to budget allocations for development cooperation, development education, emergency funds and all budget for the world of cooperation, deposited and work in entities that meet the criteria of ethical banking.

In addition, the motion provides that "media will be used to raise awareness about the use of ethical banking" and that "the creation of ethical banks and cooperatives in the municipality will be promoted."
