The administrative process leading to the appointment of an artistic director of the municipal theaters is underway.

The Committee on Infrastructure, Finance and General Affairs has this morning approved the modification of the establishment of workforce in order to create such a post, which will be covered by public open competition, thereby fulfilling the intent of the government team to professionalize arts management of the three theaters and five municipal auditoriums, modeled on existing management in cities such as Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, ​​Toronto, Sydney and New York.

The head will be elected by a tribunal of representatives of the university, theater companies and other associations.

Shall have responsibility for cultural, artistic and institutional management of these municipal areas and will ensure better coordination between the various scenic areas and to develop a Director of Performing Arts Plan 2016-2019, which will contain the artistic and institutional project, establishing the current situation of the sector and the objectives to follow.

And it will seek to generate in the town a specific industry related to the theater that also allow job creation, as illuminators, decorators, set designers, dressmakers, etc.

The artistic director will have among its functions the momentum and direction of an educational and pedagogical project with the aim of creating new audiences, especially the younger ones, and establish avenues of collaboration with regional and state government agencies, the Association of Producing Companies Distributors and Performing Arts of the Region of Murcia "Murcia on Stage" and all kinds of organizations in the sector.

The creation of this figure is provided for by the legislation to respond to the need for public administrations have a qualified lead role, endowed with abilities and function skills as well as the "professionalization" of the management level, and line with the modernization of public administrations.

The post will be considered workforce and will be submitted to the employment of the special nature of senior management.

Not entail any increase in personnel expenses to be made a reduction of the budget of several vacancies.
