José Ballesta: "Murcia fights the coronavirus with a daily sanitizing and disinfection device in the streets and urban furniture, as well as through three tracking and detection systems: analysis of traces of COVID-19 in the municipality's containers and bins, wastewater tracking and trace detection on the Murcia tram ".The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, presented this morning the special device for the analysis and detection of traces of COVID-19 that will be carried out in the containers and bins of the municipality, guaranteeing the safety of the neighbors when using said urban furniture and of the service workers who handle them.“Murcia is fighting the coronavirus with a daily device for sanitizing and disinfecting the streets and urban furniture, as well as through three tracking and detection systems: analysis of traces of COVID-19 in the municipality's containers; tracking of wastewater, with the collection of samples in the sewage network in the neighborhoods and districts most affected by the pandemic; and analysis for the detection of traces of COVID-19 in the Murcia tram, which have already confirmed the safety of this means of public transport ”, highlighted José Ballesta.During the event, which was attended by representatives of Ferrovial Servicios - a company that provides the Street Cleaning and Waste Collection service - a demonstration was carried out in the underground containers located on Gran Vía, next to the Bank of Spain.50 samples and periodic checksIn a first phase, the City Council will carry out a statistically representative sample of the municipality of Murcia, taking 50 proportional samples from the different neighborhoods and districts, taking into account the number of inhabitants by area of ??residence, concentration of neighbors and ratio of citizen use for each container and / or bin.The analyzes begin today, with emphasis on underground containers - they present a greater risk of transfer, since to deposit the waste inside it is mandatory to manipulate the grabber manually - and bins that have a high contact by users, being more susceptible to present a high viral and microbiological transfer.Subsequently, the controls will be carried out periodically in different parts of the municipality, to guarantee the safety of the residents when using the containers and bins.COVID-19 trace detection and analysis methodThe analysis procedure will be the SARS Cov2 determination by PCR on surfaces, by scraping with a sterile swab and subsequent introduction into a saline tube, so that the microorganisms adhered to the cotton are released into the liquid medium.Once collected, the samples will be placed in a perfectly equipped refrigerator for transport to the laboratory, and their analysis will be carried out within 24 hours of collection. The entire sampling and analysis system will be carried out by the independent Biovalia laboratory, following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health - it is the only laboratory in Spain accredited by ENAC, with extensive experience.

in urban, industrial and hospital environments–.

It should be noted that the company uses a method recommended by the World Health Organization, with a reliability of 99%.The event was attended by the director of Biosafety of Biovalia, Pedro Navalón, and the commercial director of the Laboratory, Antonio Agudo.Special device for intensive cleaning and disinfectionSince the beginning of the pandemic, the City Council, through Ferrovial Services, launched a special sanitation and disinfection device in the streets and urban furniture of Murcia and its districts.

In recent weeks, the Consistory has reinforced this device, which operates in the mornings, afternoons and nights.During the day, it makes a special impact on the surroundings of educational centers and garden pedestrian areas, as well as on containers and bins.

In the afternoon, it emphasizes the environments of health centers, senior centers, containers, pharmacies, supermarkets and food markets. At night, in the historical center of the city, work is carried out with equipment adapted to the area, where work is carried out on foot in those points where the sweeping machines or pressurized water cannot access.Tracing COVID-19 Through WastewaterIn addition, the City Council is carrying out a trace on the municipal wastewater, through the collection of samples in the sewage network of neighborhoods and districts. These samples are contrasted with the epidemiological data received by the Murcia City Council's Health Service, allowing decisions to be taken that are deemed appropriate at all times, based on the recommendations of the health authorities.Periodic checks for the detection of traces of Covid-19 confirm the safety of the tramThe Consistory has also launched analysis for the detection of traces of COVID-19 in the Murcia tram.

Specifically, in the Murcia Tram, analytics were carried out last July and in October to corroborate the good hygienic and safety conditions of its facilities against COVID-19, tests that have confirmed the safety of this means of transport public. The periodic controls to detect traces of COVID-19 in the tram are carried out in the facilities and vehicles of Tranvía de Murcia, analyzing different surfaces, air conditioning facilities, wastewater from offices, workshops and the driver's booth located in the Nueva Condomina stop, in order to corroborate the effectiveness of the safety and hygiene measures that have been implemented.
