The City Council improves road safety in more than 35,400 meters of eight roads (28/10/2020)

| The Traffic Service begins the work of replacement and repainting of the signs of these roads | The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, visited the district of Santa Cruz this morning, where the Road Safety Improvement Plan that will be implemented on eight roads in the municipality has begun. These works, which will be carried out in a total of 35,460 meters of roads and in which 153,897 euros will be invested, consist of the replacement of signs damaged by time and the repainting of road markings such as pedestrian crossings, border lines, axis, arrows and symbols ...The horizontal and vertical signaling along with the state of the pavements and the containment barriers are the elements that determine the safety in the movements, being therefore its adequate maintenance a priority within the objective framed in the municipal plan to improve road safety to minimize accidents on secondary roads, since conventional or secondary roads continue to be the roads where the highest number of traffic accidents with victims occur. In order to make these signs more visible in low light conditions, both road signs and especially danger warning and regulatory signs are equipped with high intensity retroreflective spheres, reflecting the light back to the source thus acting as elements of active road safety. The Traffic Service will carry out these tasks, which will last until the end of November, on the roads RM-A4, RM-B3, RM-F3, T-300, RM-F6, RM-F2, RM-300 and T -303.In this way, the City Council advances in the Municipality's Road Safety Improvement Plan, in order to raise the safety levels of the users of these roads and avoid accidents.

Thanks to this initiative, actions have already been carried out on 16 roads to improve road safety for vehicles and pedestrians through actions that are mainly based on the installation of vehicle restraint systems, through barriers, biondas and other elements, calming traffic and important improvements in horizontal and / or vertical signage in the Municipality of Murcia.Likewise, it responds to different requests from the presidents of the Municipal Boards of the districts through which these roads run, who requested the performance of these maintenance tasks.Councilor Rebeca Pérez explained that "with these maintenance work we seek that these roads are properly marked and are more visible to guarantee the safety of all users."
