The Department of Seniors is committed to emotional health and social welfare with the support of the Telephone of Hope (16/06/2020)

The mayor Paqui Pérez visits today the facilities of this association with which the Department maintains an agreement for the provision of emotional help to the tenants of social housing, among which is a high percentage of elderly living aloneImproving the social and psychological well-being, especially of the elderly who live alone, of people who have a mental health problem, disability or who have seen their situation aggravated as a result of the health crisis is one of the objectives pursued by the Department of Seniors, Disability and Development Cooperation.In this line, its owner, Paqui Pérez, also responsible for the Housing service, today visited the premises of the Telephone of Hope headquarters, an association with which the Department signed a collaboration agreement last April for the provision of of emotional help to the tenants of the municipal housing stock.This agreement, which will be in force throughout 2020, and may be extended during the year 2021, regulates the technical collaboration between the Department of Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation and the International Association Telephone of Hope, for the development of actions that improve the social, psychological and emotional well-being of people living in social housing, especially those who live alone; they are older; have a mental health or disability problem; and whose situation has been aggravated as a result of the health crisis caused by COVID-19. The social section of the Housing service, dependent on the Department of the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, is in charge of referring the cases of those families or most vulnerable people residing in social housing to the Telephone of Hope, who need to emotional support and care.Tracing"This collaboration is allowing us to expand the support that, from the social section of the Housing service, we are giving to people, families and groups that are in a situation of greater vulnerability," said councilor Paqui Pérez.In this sense, the head of the Elderly has stressed that the basic priority of the Department he directs is to help the people and groups that need it most so that they are not left behind.

"For me it is basic," reiterated the mayor Paqui Pérez.In this way, the Social section of Housing began to make a telephone follow-up during the confinement of more than 650 vulnerable families living in the 1,005 social dwellings of the municipal park to know their state of health and detect their basic needs, which are derived, depending of the urgency, to the Social Services so that the service implements the intervention protocol.
