The City Council has processed more than 1,150 COVID-19 emergency aid for vulnerable families (12/05/2020)

| The new administrative procedure, which streamlines and shortens waiting times to a minimum, has resulted in an increase of 300% compared to the processing usual | The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, reported today that Social Services have processed more than 1,150 COVID-19 emergency aid, for an amount of 900,000 euros.Since last April 27, the new processing system was launched - “an exceptional procedure that streamlines and shortens waiting times to a minimum, with the aim of guaranteeing care for the most vulnerable people in the municipality” , reported José Ballesta-, an average of 110 daily aids are processed, which represents an increase of 300% compared to the usual processing.Aid ranges from 430 euros for single-parent families to 1,071 for families of several members.

These direct subsidies are complemented by the assistance network of municipal aids and benefits for vulnerable groups (home delivery service, telecare, home help, etc.)."Our priority objective is to guarantee the coverage of basic social needs to the entire population of the municipality, with special attention to the most vulnerable sectors and groups, during the persistence of the social crisis derived from the pandemic, enhancing coordination with other administrations and the third sector ”, indicated the mayor.Since the declaration of the state of Alarm, the City Council has reinforced the workforce of municipal Social Services centers and intensified social care by 48%, doubling the number of people served compared to the same period last year.About 6,000 families and 3 million eurosThe Social Services Area of ??the Murcia City Council estimates that some 6,000 families from Murcia will benefit, which will mean an estimated amount of 3 million euros in direct aid.People or families who are in a serious situation of social vulnerability and do not have any type of income to cover basic needs will be recipients of this aid.Continuous telephone monitoringThe Department of Social and Family Rights carries out continuous telephone monitoring of cases of child vulnerability, dependents, families at risk, support for inclusion, boards of directors of social centers for the elderly and centers for women and associations of people with disabilities, for the detection and support of any vulnerable situation that may be detected.Likewise, there is a continuous telephone follow-up, after the closure when the state of alarm is decreed, of the users of the Day Stay Centers and of the minors referred by the Social Services to the Conciliation Centers.Three Social Services centers and 40 welfare unitsThe weekly average of calls answered by Social Services employees - working mostly from home - ranges between 3,000 and 3,500.

Daily peaks of up to 622 daily calls have been recorded.

The City Council has established a service commitment, responding to queries the next day or within a maximum period of three days.The device of the municipal centers of Social Services Ciudad de Murcia, Murcia Norte and Murcia Sur is completed with the assistance work carried out by the 40 social work units, distributed throughout the municipality.Strengthening of the Social Services staffThe staff of the Municipal Centers has been reinforced with professionals from other departments of the Social Services Area, to meet the demand and collaborate in the management and processing of the different social benefits derived from it (financial aid, basic income, etc.)The attention of social emergencies derived from 112, 092 and 061 or from the different health facilities through SEMAS is maintained, which after the assessment of the situation and the immediate response, informs the reference Social Services Center to give continuity to the interventionTelecare and home deliveryIn coordination with IMAS, the necessary measures have been adopted to guarantee the provision of home help and home telecare services of the Dependency Attention System, extending them to the municipal provision of said services, increasing the intensity of follow-up, thus as well as the own family respite services (temporarily suspended except in exceptional cases and with telephone follow-up) and meals at home that are kept fully functioning.
