The Pool celebrates the blessing of the silkworm seed next weekend (26/02/2020)

The Councilor for Culture and Heritage Recovery, Jesús Pacheco, presented this morning the Blessing of the Seed of the Silkworm, celebrated by Peña Huertana La Seda, of La Alberca, whose poster has been prepared by María José Caride.

La Peca Huertana La Seda de La Alberca celebrates the 45th anniversary of the seed's blessing, a tradition rooted in the meaning of obtaining this fiber in Murcia, with cultural activities and its traditional pilgrimage.

"Thanks to celebrations such as the blessing of the seed, Murcia can boast of keeping alive its oldest traditions, bringing together Murcia as it used to be," said Jesús Pacheco.

The pilgrimage will be held on Sunday, March 1, leaving at 10 am from the Peña Huertana La Seda and will have a stop to make an offering to the Patron in the Convent of Santa Catalina del Monte.

The tour will continue through the facilities of the IMIDA Sericicultural Station.

Upon arrival at the Franciscan convent, a mass and the Blessing of the Seed of the Silkworm will be carried out, to which Peña Huertana El Ciazo, from Torreagüera will attend.

Previously, on Friday, February 28, you can enjoy inflatables and children's games for the little ones in the village, as well as a great chocolate cake with monkeys and an exhibition of Chinese ink painting.

On Saturday 29 the 5th Concert of the blessing of the seed will be held with the performance of Antonio Micol.

As the 2020 ambassador for silk, Fulgencio Perona Paños, general director of the Natural Environment of the CARM has been elected, who replaces the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Murcia, Miguel López Abad, 2019 Ambassador.

The Blessing of the Seed of the Silkworm dates back to the 19th century.

The huertanos looked forward to the arrival of the first days of March to collect the seed they had stored in their barracks, bless it and achieve a great one.

People gathered in a large pilgrimage to Santa Catalina del Monte, passed through the Sericícola Station of La Alberca and picked up Cristo del Perdón, Patron of the Torcedores y Tejedores de la Seda, for the hermitage and to celebrate a campaign mass, in the one that realized the blessing of the seed.

La Peda Huertana La Seda, in 1975 and after many years of inactivity, collects the tradition and blesses, year after year, the seed of the silkworm.

The event was held for a few years in the Hermitage of San Antonio el Pobre because Santa Catalina del Monte was in poor condition, where he returned in 2006 when he was rehabilitated by the City Council.
