The signature of the Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports, María Cristina Sánchez and the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, marks the beginning of tourism research projects led by the Tourism Chair of the Region of Murcia.

The initiative promoted by the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia and the University of Murcia will contribute to improving research, dissemination and transfer of tourism knowledge and innovation.

The event was attended by the signatories José Luján, rector of the University of Murcia and María Cristina Sánchez, Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports.

Also, they were accompanied by Alicia Rubio Bañón, Vice Chancellor for Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society of the UMU;

María Isabel Sánchez-Mora Molina, dean of the Faculty of Tourism;

José Manuel Moya, manager of the Faculty of Tourism;

Ángel Pascual Martínez, director of the Chair;

and the secretary of the Faculty of Tourism, Enrique Hernández Armand.

The Minister of Tourism, Youth and Sports showed their support and recognition for this important initiative and said that "it is our responsibility to support this Chair that will boost the development of research and innovation in the tourism sector."

According to Cristina Sánchez, with the launch of the Chair "we will make progress in achieving the excellence that Regional Tourism requires to become an economic engine and to generate quality employment in the Region of Murcia."

Now, with the Chair already in operation, Ángel Pascual Martínez marks as milestones that "the Tourism Chair is going to group a very solvent group of multidisciplinary researchers who worked dispersed (economists, sociologists, biologists, geographers ...) to the date and that they are willing to make synergy to contribute their vision regarding sustainability and tourist growth our Region ".

At the end of the act, the rector of the University, expressed his congratulations for the project, because "for the Faculty of Tourism it will mean a before and after transferring knowledge to Murcia society"

The Faculty of Tourism becomes, together with the ITREM, the reference institutions in tourism training and research in the Region of Murcia.

During the signing, all the institutions and promoters that made it possible to begin the efforts to increase the value of the development of the tourism sector of the Region through research and dissemination of knowledge were recognized.

Tourism is one of the Indispensable Strategic Axes for the Socio-economic Development of the Region.

Therefore, the Regional Administration will collaborate directly in the financing of these actions by granting a subsidy, in accordance with the provisions of article 22.2.c) of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General of Grants and the Article 23 of Law 7/2005, of November 18, on Subsidies of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.

This line of subsidy is contemplated in the Strategic Plan of Subsidies of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture for the current fiscal year, approved by Order of January 17, 2019, and modified by another of February 22, 2019, of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture
