Avenida de la Constitución will be safer and more accessible after the complete renovation of the road and adaptation of the crosswalks (30/10/2019)

The Governing Board has given the green light to the adjudication of the renovation works of the road and adaptation of the pedestrian crossings in the Avenida de la Constitución of the city of Murcia in favor of the commercial Juan Gregorio SL for a total amount of 131,937 euros and an execution period of 4 weeks.

This project, developed thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Development and Sustainable Mobility and Youth in a period of three months, carries its integral renovation to make this central avenue more secure and accessible for pedestrians and drivers.

The current state of the road is deteriorated at various points, so that the project includes the reorganization of the existing slopes to avoid deterioration of the future asphalt agglomerate pavement.

To avoid that the profile of the roadway is at a level higher than the sidewalks, motivated by the successive rolling layers applied in the roadway over the years, asphalt pavement milling will be preceded to the appropriate level to extend the new intermediate and rolling layers.

In order to improve the interrelationship between pedestrians and drivers, the zebra crossings will be spaced and the pipelines necessary to install traffic lights at the crossroads of the roadway will be installed whenever the Traffic Service considers it necessary.

Pedestrian fords will adapt to the current accessibility regulations, limiting the longitudinal slope to a maximum of 8%.

Likewise, and to facilitate the transit of visually impaired people, a strip of tactile pavement of the danger signaling button will be placed parallel to the curb and immediately before it.

Similarly, stripes of directional tactile pavement will be arranged from the alignments of the buildings to the central axis of the pedestrian ford.

This project will also be complemented with the replacement of all the horizontal and vertical signaling of one of the main arteries of the municipality through which some 12,000 vehicles pass per day, so the works will be carried out in four weeks so that it remains closed on as little time as possible
