The Councilor for the Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, Paqui Pérez, today accompanied the 30 elders of the history workshop of the social centers of El Palmar during the guided visit to the Salzillo Museum that was run by one of the volunteers of the 'Major Solidarity' project.
Last Monday, the elderly of the social center of La Alberca made the visit.
Growing
This initiative, which arises in collaboration with the Department of Elderly, Disability and Development Cooperation, is framed within the volunteer program 'Mayores Solidarios' that was born in 2017 in response to the demand for volunteer activities of some of the partners of the 76 social centers for the elderly in the municipality.
Throughout these two years, the 'Major Solidarity' project has been growing, currently having seven activities related to sports and hiking, gastronomic outreach, and training and culture.
Gastronomy, culture and sport
A total of 11 volunteers and 228 participants are the protagonists of this experience that includes from visits to the museums of the city and talks about the history of Spain and Murcia or about the elaboration of the traditional meatloaf, to various outdoor sports activities free, where a team of volunteers designs the routes and routes to follow along different paths and places of the municipality.
The mayor Paqui Pérez thanked the work and commitment of the volunteers of the 'Major Solidarity' project.
"Thanks to their effort, perseverance and generosity we are consolidating an initiative that grows day by day, with new initiatives and challenges, so that our elders can continue sharing, enjoying and learning," he said.
