The University of Murcia signed two voluntary agreements on Monday, one with the Association of Homoparental Families of the Region of Murcia (ASFAGALEM) and the other with the collective NO TE PRIVES, of lesbians, gays, transsexuals and bisexuals of the Region of Murcia .
The purpose of these agreements is to establish a coordinated project that allows both entities to receive university volunteering.
Taking into account that one of the strategic lines of the University of Murcia is the approach to social purposes, these collaborations will allow raising awareness and approach of members of the university community towards issues that affect homoparental families and LGTBI + people.
Paloma Sobrado, Vice Chancellor of Students and Services to the University Community and promoter of both agreements, has indicated that the main purpose of this collaboration is "to contribute to breaking stereotypes, myths and unjustified phobias."
Meanwhile, Nuria Montiel, member of ASFAGALEM, has shown her gratitude to the UMU for opening its doors to the association and highlighted "the importance of training and information to combat homophobia and stop repeating stigmas and prototypes".
The president of the group DO NOT PRIVATE, Jesus Costa, has also shown his gratitude to the institution "for working hand in hand with our collective to eradicate countervaluations" and has highlighted the involvement of the UMU in giving visibility to collaborations such as these.
Rector Luján has closed the act, which has emphasized that "there are basic values ​​that should help guide us like freedom, democracy and equality."
"For this reason, the University of Murcia must have an open mind and heart to point out the path along which we must go in the future," he concluded.
