Monte Limpio Day returns to leave the environment in perfect condition after the Pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Fuensanta 2019 (30/08/2019)

Information, activities and distribution of biodegradable bags will be some of the actions to prevent the mountain from getting dirty after the popular pilgrimage of the Patron Saint of Murcia, on September 17.

In the last years of the Pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Fuensanta, an average of approximately 23,500 kilos of waste have been collected to protect the natural environment where this event takes place.

The Councilor for Sustainable Development and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, has presented the Clean Mountain Day 2019 together with the president of the Mountaineering Federation of the Region of Murcia, Luis Ríos, the president of the Scouts Federation of Scouts of Murcia (ASDE) , Daniel López, and international climber Carlos Garranzo.

On the day of the pilgrimage, on September 17, a tent will be installed from which information will be distributed and bags specially made from potato skin, totally biodegradable and biocompostable, will be distributed.

"With these actions we want to raise awareness among the attendees about the need not to dirty the natural environment, in addition to informing on how to avoid the risk of fire and protect our forest," says Navarro.

The Mountaineering Federation of the Region of Murcia will be responsible for coordinating environmental awareness, training and education activities on Monte Limpio Day 2019.

“In the last editions the cleaning services of the City Council have collected an average of 23,500 kilos of waste, almost 24 tons that will no longer be dirtying the mountain, but to continue protecting our natural environment, the collaboration of all attendees with the aim to ensure that the mountain remains clean after our step â€, clarifies the councilman.

During the pilgrimages of other years, an approximate average participation of 750,000 people has been registered, tending to get closer and closer to one million pilgrims, which makes all efforts to make this activity sustainable.
