The PSOE asks the mayor if he has claimed more money for the municipality during his meeting with López Miras (26/08/2019)

Before the news of the meeting today between the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, to "address strategic projects common to both administrations", the Municipal Socialist Group takes the opportunity to ask if at that meeting He has treated the historical debt carried by the City Council for assuming improper powers, because they belong to the regional administration.

In this sense, the socialist spokesman, José Antonio Serrano, affirms that "we hope that this meeting has been fruitful and that neither of the two leaders of the PP has forgotten that the municipality of Murcia is losing in the distribution of regional budgets , especially for assuming improper competencies in social services and education, mainly and, in addition, because the Plan of Provincials, Pedanías and Peripheral Neighborhoods has been delayed and so reduced that to distribute less than two million euros among 59 districts is quite scarce if we take into account the huge existing inequality. "

In this regard, Serrano recalls that it was Ballesta himself who calculated more than a year ago a deficit of 39 million for assuming improper powers for which at that time the City had paid 48 million euros, so the socialist spokesman believes that "Today's meeting is ideal to claim all the money that is being sent to all Murcia and Murcia."

In addition, he also points out, the mayor pointed out the need to take into account the capital of Murcia when making the distribution of regional budgets. "For all this, he warns that," consider your own claims because before the PP representative, he is the mayor of Murcia and Murcia and must ensure their interests. "

The socialist spokesman points out that there are many reports that, in general, speak of the fact that local entities assume about 15% of the expenditure that corresponds to other administrations and that it would be, to a large extent, in the origin of the important debt that the municipalities carry from this country.

Likewise, it points out that the same Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia has called on the Regional Government to assume the improper powers faced by the municipalities without any type of financing and that, in many cases, as in that of small municipalities , drown the consistories and compromise their budgets.

Serrano says that equal opportunities and services to correct imbalances between the districts and the city center should be a priority although, "from what we see, the PP has a hard time understanding it."

Finally, he comments that it should be taken into account that the total amount of regional budgets for Murcia has finally remained in the current year at 63.5 million euros, which means an average of 143 euros per inhabitant, "an amount very meager to be the capital of the Region and be the seventh municipality of Spain, as Mayor Ballesta knows.
