The Recruitment service will renew the mobile park of the City Council with the acquisition of new electric vehicles (26/08/2019)

The Recruitment service directed by the first deputy mayor, Mario Gómez, is conducting a series of tests of the different electric vehicles that exist in the market to analyze and acquire those that best adapt to the needs of the work to be carried out by the officials and carry out a conversion of the current municipal mobile park.

The municipality of Murcia, like the rest of the big cities, has committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the Covenant of Mayors.

A pact that commits municipalities to reduce their GHG by 40 percent by 2030.

To contribute to the fulfillment of this pact, but, above all, to improve the sustainability of the municipality and reduce pollution, the person in charge of Contracting will ask all the services that commit to the renewal of the assigned mobile park to be carried out by acquiring electric vehicles, buying the most energy efficient ones, except for special vehicles that cannot be electric because of their characteristics.

The main objective of this project is to demonstrate that electric mobility is compatible and responds to the needs of all City Council services.

"In this way, older and polluting vehicles will be gradually replaced until at least 30 percent of the mobile park is made up of electric vehicles," said Mayor Mario Gomez.

In this regard, the Councilor for Development recalled that "despite the renewal of some public lighting points, the acquisition of hybrid vehicles or the commissioning of a few free charging points there is still much to do to make the transition energy in the City Council is a reality as soon as possible. "

Finally, the person in charge of the Recruitment service has stated that "we have the obligation as an administration to set an example and to follow the guidelines set forth in the Electric Vehicle and Climate Change Adaptation Strategies of the municipality of Murcia demonstrating that another type of mobility is possible".
