Great success of the canoeists of the Catholic University of Murcia in the World Championship held in Szeged (Hungary).
In total there have been four medals (two silver and two bronze) and four Olympic seats, an excellent booty for the UCAM canoeists who will be one of the great strengths of the Spanish sport in the 2020 Olympic Games.
The first joy of the last day came from the hand of the couple formed by Paco Cubelos and Ãñigo Peña in K2 1,000 meters that certified the good feelings they had offered in the previous competitions getting the silver medal and the corresponding Olympic place.
More complicated seemed, on paper, the K4 500m competition for Cristian Toro's last minute low.
The entry of Carlos Arévalo and the performance of the boat with just a few weeks of training was an unknown but all doubts jumped into the air in a huge final in which Spain, with three UCAM crew (Saúl Craviotto, Marcus Cooper Walz and Rodrigo Germade), achieved silver and was about to achieve gold.
Also noteworthy is the fourth position of Sete Benavides in the final of C1 200m and the sixth place of the C4 500m in which the Murcian Mohssine Moutahir competed.
Two bronze medals in the previous days
The UCAM paddlers had already added two bronze medals in the previous days.
First it was Sete Benavides, last Friday, with his partner Toni Segura, in C2 500m.
Later Teresa Portela got it, on Saturday, in K1 200m.
Both achieved for Spain the Olympic place in their categories.
For Sete it would be their third Olympic Games and in the case of Teresa Portela they would be the sixth, becoming the Spanish woman with more Olympic participations.
