The City Council reduces the emission of 50 tons of CO2 annually into the atmosphere with the new street lighting (23/08/2019)

José Ballesta has visited Avenida de la Constitución, where this week the luminaries are being replaced by new ones with low consumption.

Throughout this month of August, more than 150 luminaires have been renewed on the Alicante road, at the height of Cobatillas, and on Avenida de la Constitución.

Next week the works will arrive in El Carmen.

The actions are part of the municipal strategy 'Clean Air', aimed at reducing the effects of climate change and pollution.

They represent a saving of 15,000 euros of energy consumption per year.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, and the Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, visited the Avenida de la Constitución, where this week they are replacing the luminaires for new ones of low consumption.

"In total, in August from the City Council we have renewed more than 150 luminaires with LED lighting, which reduce the emission of 50 tons of CO2 annually into the atmosphere," said José Ballesta, who added that "this action, which will be extended to different public spaces of neighborhoods and districts, is one of the measures included in the municipal strategy 'Clean Air', aimed at reducing the effects of climate change and pollution â€.

The next performance, in the Carmen neighborhood

The City Council has launched in August a plan to renew public lighting, divided into three phases.

Specifically, at the beginning of August a total of 136 luminaires were renewed on the Alicante road, at the height of Cobatillas.

This week they are working on Avenida de la Constitución.

With the renovation of its lighting, 7 tons of CO2 will be emitted into the atmosphere and the consumption of 13,694 kWh will be reduced annually, which translates into an economic saving of about 2,200 euros each year.

Specifically, in this area 18 luminaries have been replaced by new ones with low consumption.

Next week the luminaries that require it will be renewed in the Paseo Marqués de Corvera, in the Carmen neighborhood.

An annual saving of 15,000 euros

Thanks to these three actions, almost 50 tons of carbon dioxide will be emitted annually into the atmosphere and some 15,000 euros of energy consumption will be saved.

In September, in addition, they will continue the performances in new avenues and streets.

More 'Clean Air'

The municipal strategy 'Clean Air' includes numerous measures to reduce pollution and curb climate change, such as pedestrianization of urban environments, the commitment to clean means in public transport and road cleaning services, for alternative free services to agricultural burns and the promotion of green areas, the Electric Vehicle and Bicycle Strategy and the implementation of the 2030 Forest Plan.
