The Plenary Hall prepares for its exercise after the summer holidays (22/08/2019)

The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Youth, Rebeca Pérez, has been supervising this morning the cleaning work that is being carried out in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, taking advantage of the absence of activity in this space during the month of August.

Among the actions, the special washing of the lamp stands out, which, due to the age and complexity of the lamp, is necessary to assemble a modular aluminum scaffold, as well as the presence of experienced personnel who will handle, thoroughly and with extreme caution , this relic dating from 1925.

The mayor explains that for its cleaning, osmotized water is used, that is, pure water that is obtained by a filtering machine eliminating impurities so that when it evaporates it does not produce any type of residue or stain.

"This same method is also used in the rest of the old lamps of the City Hall, as they are elements that require special care and are part of the history of this emblematic building," describes Rebeca Pérez.

Along with this cleaning, the polishing of the room is also being carried out, as well as the accesses of the building with high-speed machines and special waxes.

“We take advantage of the month of August to carry out these actions because it is the time of least activity in the room and so we prepare this historical space for the new exercise after the summer holidays,†says the councilor.

Sustainable cleaning

The Interior Cleaning Service depends on the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, through the dealership Actúa.

These works are carried out in administrative buildings, theaters, offices, doctors, senior and women's centers, police, firefighters, libraries, municipal centers and auditoriums.

Currently, 352 stores are served within the municipality, 88 belonging to the city of Murcia and 264 to the districts, with a cleaning surface of 216,095.49 m2.

"The commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness are priorities for this City Council," says Rebeca Pérez.

In this way, these tasks are carried out under these principles, such as the choice of less polluting vehicles, ECO products, reduction of plastic containers and water savings through cleaning techniques.
