The free collection of goods service last year removed almost 6,000 tons of bulky waste on public roads (21/08/2019)

The Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, together with Ferrovial Services, offers Murcia a free system for collecting furniture and equipment that is responsible for removing bulky inert waste such as furniture, tables, wood, mattresses ...

Last year, 5,991 tons of bulky waste were collected, which is almost 30% more than in 2017, the year in which 4,630 tons were collected.

If the data for 2018 are compared with those for 2014, the year in which 1,998 tons of this bulky waste were collected, this increase amounts to 200%.

During the first half of 2019, 18,629 calls related to this service were received, of which 3,875 are from citizens requesting this service.

These calls have been increasing, since in the same semester of 2018 3,161 were registered and in 2017, they were 2,700.

These calls are joined by the total incidents collected for this service in a total of 14,754.

Last year there were 14,587 in the same period and in 2017 these were 13,600.

Through the web portal and social networks, such as twitter or Facebook, 154 notices of the total have been received.

Councilwoman Rebeca Pérez has explained that “most of these notices are made by the company's own workers who have been provided with a tool on the mobile device, thanks to which they warn of abandoned belongings or other related incidents. with the service before the citizens do it, which improves and speeds up the collection of those who do not notify their deposit ”.

A new campaign was launched last October from the City Council reminding the public how easy it is to get rid of those bulky items that have reached the end of their useful life.

Although the phone is in all other containers distributed throughout the geography of the municipality, it is still remembered to avoid the bad image and the danger of leaving it on public roads in any way.

As Rebeca Pérez points out, “it is true that citizens call more, but we have to continue working to end that bad image.

We launched the campaign by placing stickers on containers and distributing posters and brochures to remind neighbors of the correct way to do it.

In addition, the road cleaning service workers themselves distribute it in their assigned work areas to always remember the message ”.

In addition to causing a bad image, this attitude leads to irregularities in the order established in the collection and the presence of uncontrolled landfills both on streets and in lots.

Anyone who wants it, can request for free the removal of furniture both by telephone, by contacting the phone 900 511 133, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, through the web murciaciudadsostenible.es or using the associated social networks To this page.

Once contacted indicates the direction from where they are going to get rid of the bulky furniture.

The furniture and fixtures will then be deposited in the container closest to the address indicated between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. so as not to block pedestrians and without supporting them in the container.

This collection does not include in this service the debris, remains of works or large appliances that are deposited in the Ecopark of Murcia.

This benefit has daily frequency in the center of the city and alternate in neighborhoods and districts performing this work from Monday to Saturday.

Firstly, the removal of bulky items is answered after a telephone call, although a hairstyle is made of the corresponding areas assigned each day, at the container points.

Each user can present 2 furniture or 8 kilos.

The service is addressed to the neighbors individually, which is responsible for the waste deposited in the street until its collection.

You can not leave waste that pose a risk of injury to users of public roads, such as large appliances, mirrors, sharp glass objects ...

Large producers, carpentry companies, furniture stores, Removals, Upholsteries, or Urbanization Maintenance Managers must manage their own waste by disposing of their waste according to their legal criteria.

If the user cannot wait for the assigned collection day, he has the Ecopark of Murcia to be able to take it at the most appropriate day and time to his needs.

Citizen awareness and collaboration are very important.

The Barrio del Carmen is the one that has made the most calls to this phone during this semester, 200. It is followed by the Vistalegre neighborhood, with 131, from Santa Maria de Gracia, with 114 and La Flota with 110. By districts, it is Puente Bacon, which in this semester has made 160 calls to 900 511 133, is followed by Beniaján, 145, Cabezo de Torres 144 El Palmar, 133 and La Alberca125.

These bulky collected are transferred to the waste treatment plant located in the Murcia hamlet of Cańada Hermosa for subsequent recycling and recovery.

In this center we proceed to the selection, separation and crushing of waste with the objective of optimizing the recovery of the waste entered and achieving the minimum possible rejection, understanding as rejection that fraction of non-recoverable waste.

In this plant, on the one hand, it is possible to obtain secondary raw materials that will be reintroduced into the production cycle.

On the other, a rigorous transformation process recovers other non-recyclable materials in the form of CSR, which are subsequently used as an alternative fuel in facilities such as cement plants or industrial furnaces, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases and the independence of fossil fuels.
