The Department of Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism, together with the mayor, José Ballesta today presented the works of the cultural tourist route of 3 kilometers along the original layout of the old Arab wall of Murcia.
The project, financed by the Department directed by Pedro García Rex, has a budget of 374,422 and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), within the framework of the Operational Program for Sustainable Growth 2014-2020, with the DUSI Strategy Murcia IT Innovation + Tradition.
This action will allow you to discover the vestiges of medieval Murcia following the path of the old Muslim wall.
"A tourist and cultural itinerary, of a museum and monumental nature, through the Muslim Arab wall that defined and defended the city of the thirteenth century, contributing to increasing and valuing our heritage wealth," said Pedro García Rex.
The tour starts from the Visitor Center of the Santa Eulalia Wall, where an introduction about the origins of the city of Murcia will be given and an exhibition that will serve as a guideline of the itinerary can be contemplated.
From here begins the one kilometer long route in the remains of the Wall of Santa Eulalia, continuing along Cánovas del Castillo Street, Apostles Square, Plaza de Cardenal Belluga Catedral and Glorieta, ending this section in the Verónica Wall.
The spaces through which this itinerary passes are places that were occupied by the old buildings or that were part of the main urban layout of the city.
With this initiative, framed in the Strategic Transformation Projects of the City coordinated by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, intends to complete the historical archaeological offer of Murcia.
