The Department of Urban Agenda and Open Government, directed by Mercedes Bernabé, has developed a comprehensive and extensive program in the municipal libraries for the last four months of the year.
“Our goal is that these facilities are living spaces, cultural centers where not only read and study.
In addition to carrying out activities to promote reading, we also intend to offer other proposals related to culture, â€said Bernabé.
Thus, from September to December, Reading Clubs, Dumas Club of Reading, Cinefórum, Storytelling and Chess Workshops have been organized.
In addition, the Library Day, which is celebrated on October 24, will feature special programming and will collaborate in the organization of the Murcia Book Fair 2019.
In total 55 sessions of reading clubs will be held, in 13 libraries of the Municipal Library Network of Murcia (Beniaján, Cabezo de Torres, El Palmar, Javalí Nuevo, La Alberca, La Ñora, El Carmen, José Saramago, Río Segura, San Basilio, Santiago el Mayor, Puente Tocinos and Sangonera la Verde).
The fund used comes from the titles acquired for this purpose and from the Club collection of the Regional Library of Murcia.
In 2019, 6 new titles (25 copies of each) were acquired for this activity: 'The pain of others', by Miguel Ángel Hernández,' The story of the maid ', by Margaret Atwood,' The best stories of Anton ', by Pavlovich Chekhov,' The Ugly Bourgeoisie ', by Miguel Espinosa,' Train to Pakistan ', by Khushwant Singh, and' The Supper ', by Herman Koch.
The periodicity is monthly and the maximum number of participants per club is 25 people.
Registration is done in the libraries where the activity takes place, which is free.
The Dumas Reading Club is held at the Río Segura Library on a monthly basis and is directed and moderated by José Belmonte.
Places are limited and the titles programmed for this four-month period are 'The process', by Franz Kafka (September 24), 'If we touch the earth', by Aurora Saura (October 29), 'Elena's great friend', by Elena Ferrante (November 26) and 'Lobisón', by Ginés Sánchez (December 17).

In addition, during the months of October and November, storytelling sessions will be held in all RMBM libraries, except in the Segura River.
The storytellers will be held weekly and are aimed at the youngest users of the libraries.
Approximately 60 storytelling sessions with different counters are planned, in order to offer variety and adjust as much as possible to the different age groups of the attendees.
Finally, the chess initiation workshops continue in some of the RMBM libraries, which have been held since 2015. During the months of October and November this activity will continue in the libraries of Beniaján, Santiago el Mayor and San Basilio.
