The Councilor for Social Rights and Family, Pilar Torres, and the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, visit the park to take stock of this solidarity initiative.

The park gives this month a space in its store to the Abraham Project so that it can market the products made in its Atelier 'El Costurerico'

The Councilor for Social Rights and Family, Pilar Torres, the Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, together with the director of Terra Natura, Gustavo Martínez, have today taken stock of the joint solidarity program '12 months with you ', so as they have visited the space given in the store to Proyecto Abraham, a group that occupies this month.

“A total of 187 people with specific needs have already participated in the different activities that have been held throughout the year, including interaction with animals with the aim of contributing to their development and integration,†says Pilar Towers.

Likewise, the councilors have taken advantage of their visit to the park to know the space that has been given to the Abraham Project, a group that occupies this month, so that they can market the products made in their Atelier 'El Costurerico' clothing workshop.

“From the City Council we put all the facilities so that our spaces become environments of learning, values, exchange of opportunities and social awareness.

Terra Natura is a unique space for this, surrounded by nature and interacting with the animals through which thousands of people pass daily, â€said the Councilor for Social Rights.

'El Costurerico' is a socio-labor insertion project that creates job opportunities for people in situations of social vulnerability, who thus find a way out of work to improve their living conditions transforming clothes that no longer serve into completely new ones.

Councilman José Guillén recalls that "Murcia has a network of more than 3,000 green areas and that Terra Natura is the most emblematic park in the city through which tens of thousands of people pass through the year."

The head of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration highlights the continuity of the '12 months with you' program "as an initiative that will continue in the framework of joint actions between the City Council and Terra Natura."

“Our gardens have to be places of encounter and example, and this is one of those actions of social responsibility and commitment to help those groups that need it most,†he adds.

Social commitment

The '12 months with you' program organizes each month a different action aimed at a specific social group in the park's facilities.

Thus, they have already passed through Terra Natura We are All Campus, the Temporary Family Shelter Program, the Murcia Norte Social Services Center, D´Genes, Abamurcia, Assido or the FADE Foundation have already gone through the Terra Natura program.

This August is the turn of the Abraham Project and then, until December, they will be Adaner, Project Man, Project Activities with Children and CEOM.

This initiative is part of the social responsibility actions of Terra Natura through which the park sponsors the UCAM Basketball Wheelchair team, collaborates with the ASPAPROS basketball team, has signed an agreement with ASTRADE so that children with whom This association works to attend summer school and a project is underway with the UMU Chair of Autism for the adaptation of signage.

Also, Terra Natura is considered as a fully accessible enclosure.

The adaptation has been made with contributions from various organizations, which defined the aspects to be taken care of.

For example, climbing accesses have been adapted, tree hollows are filled, closures and entrances to bathrooms have been installed, specific areas for people in wheelchairs are installed, and improvements in the hearing system have also been applied.
