Tourism continues to grow in Murcia, although with less dynamism than in previous years.

Although the 2018 tourism data presented today by the Department of Employment, Economic Promotion and Tourism are positive, there is a slowdown in growth that affects the impact of tourism on the economy and employment.

Thus, during 2018, the total economic impact of tourism in the municipality of Murcia has reached 266,387,144 euros (+1.42) and tourism GDP 161,048,541 euros (+1.85).

Travelers and overnight stays

Regarding the number of visitors, the number of travelers amounted to 467,003, 1.87% more than in 2017, and overnight stays increased from 754,765 to 781,712, 3.57% more than in the previous year.

Regarding tourists, 81% of visitors are nationals, while the remaining 19% come from abroad, totaling national tourists to 377,163, with an increase of 1.31%;

and foreigners 85,840, 4.25% more than in 2017.

The majority of Spanish visitors come from the Valencian Community (20.1), Madrid (19.2), Andalusia (17);

and foreigners come from European markets such as France (19.4), UK (16.9), Italy (13.3) and Germany (9.1).

Councilman Pedro García Rex has pointed out that "although these are positive data, it can be seen, as with the number of visitors and overnight stays, a slowdown in growth that also affects job creation."
