More than 15,000 palm trees are reviewed and pruned in the municipality of Murcia to show all their beauty (02/08/2019)

"It is about eliminating possible dry palms as well as the fruits that can fall to the road and suppose a nuisance to pedestrians," explains the mayor of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén.

Some of the places where these works are carried out are the Palmeral de Santiago and Zaraiche, Alquerías, La Alberca and El Palmar.

The Parks and Gardens Service, under the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, performs pruning work on more than 15,000 palm trees in the municipality of Murcia, works that are developed by 15 professionals divided into three teams.

"It is about eliminating possible dry palms as well as the fruits that may fall to the road and pose a nuisance to pedestrians," explains the mayor of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, who this morning has visited the works that They are taking place on Pintor Sobejano Street, next to the Malecon Garden.

This work is carried out throughout the municipality of Murcia, being some of the places where there is a greater concentration of palm trees such as the Palm Grove of Santiago and Zaraiche, Alquerías, La Alberca or El Palmar, among others.

“They are unique trees of the history and evolution of Murcia.

The care of our green areas are a priority for our environments to show all their beauty â€, highlights the mayor of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration.

The palm trees, of the species Phoenix canariensis and Phoenix dactylífera, as well as Washingtonia, are pruned by professionals who have all the necessary safety measures for the development of these tasks and complying with the strictest regulations in occupational risk prevention.

Specifically, the ascent to the palm trees is done through the rope system and safety harness.

Once the pruning is finished, phytosanitary treatments are carried out in the specimens to avoid the presence of red weevil, thus ensuring the growth and development of the more than 15,000 palm trees in the municipality of Murcia.

The City Council continues to work on improving the green areas of the entire municipality of Murcia in close collaboration with both the STV Gestión concessionaire.
