Urban Development studies the remodeling of San Juan square with hoteliers and neighbors (01/08/2019)

Councilman José Guillén holds a participatory meeting with people who work in this environment to "know their needs and analyze all the improvements that can be made."

"The extension of the vegetation and green areas, improving the lighting and providing the square of fountains would be some of the actions we could carry out," says the mayor

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, has held a meeting this afternoon with hoteliers and residents of the Plaza de San Juan de Murcia to study the remodeling of the space.

"The objective of this first contact has been to know the needs of people who work and live in this emblematic place of Murcia and analyze all the improvements that can be made to make this space more functional and beautiful," highlights the mayor.

Among the issues that have been discussed, the distribution of space, street furniture, such as benches and litter bins, decorative elements, terraces, lighting and revegetation of the square stand out.

"The expansion of green areas with the incorporation of more trees to provide the natural shade, improve lighting and provide the space of sources would be some of the actions we could perform from the Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration," he explains José Guillen.

After listening to the hoteliers and neighbors, the next step is to synthesize all the actions and pass them on to the technicians so that they value them and can develop the project.

“This has been the first contact for the remodeling of the Plaza de San Juan.

We have held a meeting to listen to the requests of the people who live in this space and now it is time to assess and write a first draft with which we can continue the participatory process, â€says the councilor.

In this sense, José Guillén also recalls that “a fundamental element of the policy of transparency and good governance is citizen participationâ€.

"It makes no sense to govern with our backs to the citizens, Murcia have chosen us to solve their needs and demand and our duty is to listen to them since these types of actions require the greatest possible consensus and social collaboration"
