More than 3,100 vulnerable children participate in summer schools of the City Council (11/07/2019)

The Department of Social Rights and Family has scheduled different summer activities aimed mainly at children who are in a situation of social exclusion and / or vulnerability.

The total summer schools that are being developed this month amount to 98 and a total of 3,159 minors participate in them.

Of these, 56 are managed directly by the City Council and 42 are part of the Caixa Proinfancia program.

The Councilor for Social Rights and Family, Pilar Torres, visited this morning the one that is being held at CEIP El Carmen, organized in collaboration with the La Caixa Foundation.

This year the theme focuses on the right to respect, contextualized within the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, specifically in objective 16 'Promoting fair and inclusive societies'.

Therefore, a series of workshops and activities will be held to raise awareness among the participating children about this objective, about respecting differences of any kind.

"In this way, we will promote teamwork, participation, non-competition, joint decision-making, creativity, the development of individual and social skills, as well as others that focus on respect and tolerance towards others, "said Pilar Torres

The summer schools will run until July 26, in the morning, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and until 2 p.m. if they have a dining room service.

In addition to making workshops of diverse nature, the children will enjoy 3 days of bathing in municipal swimming pools and 2 excursions.

For its development a total of 39 educational centers, 18 municipal cultural centers, facilities of the municipal centers of social services, the 3 cyber classrooms, the Young La Nave space ...

Dining aids and families

Also, from the council, in collaboration with entities of the third sector of the municipality as Cáritas and Columbares, have been launched various actions of the municipal table of eradication of child poverty, which involved different entities and associations of the municipality, to promote measures aimed at alleviating child poverty during the months of school holidays:

- Dining: A total of 26 summer schools have dining service, of which three are managed by the Columbares Association, six by Caritas and 17 by the Department of Social Rights and Family.

This benefits a total of 947 minors.

- Granting of aid to families without access to a summer school with a cafeteria: The approximate number of grants planned is 900 with an approximate budget of 190,000 euros, of which 1,800 children in the municipality will benefit.

The total budget in aid and dining rooms of summer schools amounts to a total of 238,000 euros, to which must be added the contribution of Cáritas and Columbares, which is approximately 47,000 euros.

Other activities that the Department of Social Rights and Family carries out this summer, are summer camps for a week, for minors proposed by the municipal centers of Social Services.

The total number of places offered was 135 for children between the ages of 6 and 16 who will be distributed during the month of July and the first half of August, with a budget of 28,000 euros.

The total budget for the summer 2019 activities organized by the Department of Social and Family Rights, adding summer schools, camps, the dining room and family support amounts to 405,000 euros.
