Let's change Murcia denounces the use of the Malecón garden for exclusive shows (02/07/2019)

The municipal training claims that the green areas and historical places are for the enjoyment of all citizens, there being other places more appropriate for the programming of paid events.

The person in charge of Sector Huerta and Model City of Cambiemos Murcia, José Antonio Moreno Micol, recalls that the training has denounced on numerous occasions the policy of privatization of public space that is being carried out by the PP government.

To this we must now add a new project called "The Nights of the Malecon" from July 3 to 7, where a company that produces shows the fencing and occupation of a good part of the historic garden of the Malecón for the celebration of a cycle of concerts with tickets ranging from 20 to 60 euros.

To change Murcia is using a green space that is owned by the city for the business of a company, where a small audience with capacity to pay for tickets can enjoy the shows while the rest of the citizenship is excluded.

"These shows should be held in venues allowed for this, such as the Victor Villegas auditorium, La Fica or the Fofó Park auditorium, but never the occupation of green spaces that are used by many people as a relief from urban pressure and heat" said Moreno Micol.

In addition, the Malecón garden is part of the cultural heritage of Murcia, since its origin dates back to 1845 as a botanical garden and is in the environment of protection of the cultural interest of the Paseo del Malecón.

The lack of protection and adequate conservation criteria, as well as the continuous celebration of this type of concerts and multitudinous events, are causing its degradation and loss of character.

For this reason, during the last legislature, Cambiemos Murcia presented a motion approved in plenary session so that the City Council could build an adequate party venue and carry out the restoration of the botanical garden as an emblematic place in the city.
