The Local Police attends about 200,000 calls, 40,000 more than last year (15/03/2019)

The City Council recognizes the work of local police officers and their service to the city on the day of St. Patrick with the delivery of decorations in the Plaza Belluga.

José Ballesta wanted to recognize the pioneering work of "the first five women who acceded to the Local Police of Murcia 37 years ago" and called on all agents "to continue building a fairer, freer, more secure Murcia, within a Spain with a common project ".

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilor of Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, Lola Sanchez, and public authorities, today made delivery of the distinctions to the Local Police, on the occasion of the celebration of the acts of Saint Patrick, Patron of the body.

The mayor said that "next April 1 will be 567 years since the Council of Murcia in solemn session presided over by the Corregidor D. Diego Ribera agreed to appoint patron of Murcia to St. Patrick in gratitude for the victory in the Battle of the Alporchones.

They are also fulfilled, in this year 2019, the 165 years of the creation of the Local Police Corps of Murcia according to an agreement adopted on August 19, 1854 by the Municipal Corporation ".

"Murcia is one of the safest cities in Spain and it is here, the Local Police Force of Murcia, where all of you are the absolute protagonists of this celebration and it must be understood as a public recognition of the excellence of your work and to the sacrifice of their effort, "the mayor addressed the agents.

Throughout 2018, the local police handled 199,568 calls, 40,000 more than in 2017 and 65,000 more than in 2015. The actions of the guardians police, neighborhood police, community police and ecological patrol have multiplied.

New services have been incorporated, such as the tourist police and the leisure police.

The family care and protection team has deployed its discreet and effective work against gender violence and help for minors.

"In short, a policy of citizen security capable of balancing prevention and control with the attack on crime, without contemplation, at all levels," the alderman acknowledged.

"Because citizen security is an essential social value since it affects not only the quality of life of citizens, but also the stability of democratic systems.

Without security there is no freedom.

Pioneer agents

Decorations and Homage to the Fallen

After reviewing the training, the mayor presided over the award ceremony.

The public representatives awarded the Cross to the Police Merit with White Distinction to 24 agents and 2 people outside the Corps.

Authorities awarded a Public Personal Congratulation to 33 active Local Police officers and distinguished with the Local Police Insignia 54 retired agents in the last year.

After the delivery of the badges was carried out the act of Tribute to the Fallen in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga.
