Can Murcia ask Ballesta to take the problem of pollution seriously (05/01/2019)

Ginés Ruiz, secretary general of Podemos in the municipality of Murcia, has pointed out that behind the pollution indexes of these days, there is the bad management and the model of municipality that the PP has created during the last years.

Something that is "even more worrisome because of the attitude of the Ballesta government team, which in the face of this problem shows an order of priorities that is totally detrimental to citizenship."

Ruiz said that the episodes of these days highlight two "very serious problems, the first, pollution and the second, the attitude of the PP government team to pollution."

As explained by the Secretary General of the municipality, to prevent these peaks of pollution from occurring, structural measures must be taken, in the medium and long term, which imply "rethinking the municipality model. improvement of public transport, the implementation of intermodality, traffic calming, safe and effective alternatives to journeys in motor vehicles and greater control of certain activities, as well as a better distribution of services and activities that eliminate the need of many displacements, among others the one that goes from the districts by the shortage of services of these ".

Regarding the contamination peaks, Ginés Ruiz has had an impact on updating the pollution protocol which, despite having little time, was already obsolete, control stations must also be modernized, and binding and effective measures must be contemplated since the first ones were overcome. pollution stretches. "

On the other hand, Ruiz has insisted that, "the attitude of the Ballesta government is really worrying, dealing with a very serious problem as something anecdotal and of little importance." Not only is there an excessively permissive protocol, but it is not even fulfilled in its first tranche of action, that of the information to the population, because there is biased information, the risks are underestimated and one looks the other way ".

Hence the secretary general of Podemos Murcia has stressed that this shows "a disturbing order of priorities of the municipal government, in which the welfare and health of the population is not among its first objectives." An intolerable irresponsibility in a government team that is exhausted and without ideas to continue directing the municipality ".

Finally, Ginés Ruiz said that "from Podemos Murcia we are very clear that the health and wellbeing of the population is our first concern, and that the model of the municipality is a determining factor to improve public health, although this implies adopting measures less bright than filling the center area of colored lights, we hope that the Ballesta government does not need pollution to prevent seeing those lights to start adopting efficient measures ".
