Public transport, the expansion of the South and the historical heritage, great goals of José Ballesta for 2019 (28/12/2018)

The mayor offers a balance of his City Project and notes that "2018 has been the year in which the major strategic projects, the result of ongoing dialogue with Murcia's civil society, have begun to be implemented and are becoming a reality."

A new model of public transport, with the improvement of lines, connections and frequencies throughout the municipality of Murcia;

the expansion and growth of the South zone of the city, through the Connection South project;

and the recovery of the historical and archaeological heritage of the municipality as a unique and distinctive tourist attraction of Murcia;

These are the three main objectives that Mayor José Ballesta will set for this coming year 2019, who has claimed "the pride of being Murcia" as part of the identity of "a great city".

"At the end of next year, all public transport will be unified - now divided between the Community and the Consistory - and, finally, the City Council will be the competent Administration of all the municipal lines.

We are going to establish a new contest that will unite all transport models in the municipality of Murcia, "said the mayor.

"In addition, all the actions that are being carried out in the South zone will be materialized little by little, due to the works on the railroad tracks.

Therefore, we are working on the project we have called 'Southern Connection', which will radically transform the entire southern area of the city.

At the time the North was transformed and now it is the turn of the South, so that all this development is balanced, "he said.

Finally, José Ballesta referred to the project "that delves into our roots and identity: the Fortaleza del Rey Lobo, which will be the largest monumental and landscaped park in the Region, with more than 1.5 million square meters, which includes the recovery of the medieval fortresses of Monteagudo Castle, El Castillejo, El Castillo de Larache and Cabezo de Torres, as well as the whole network of palaces and rest areas ".

Balance of the City Project

The mayor also offered a balance of his mandate at the head of the Consistory.

"We have a live and solid City Project, which is born of the permanent dialogue with the entire civil society of Murcia.

In 2015 we laid the foundations for this model, in 2016 we carried out the public consultation that enriched and shaped the different strategic projects, and we obtained European external funding to be able to carry them out.

In 2017, the technical specifications of these actions were drafted by the City Council, so that they could be put out to tender and tendered, and this year 2018 has been the year in which many of these projects have begun to be implemented and are becoming a reality. "

In this sense, José Ballesta referred to "Murcia Río, with actions already completed and others underway that will be completed in the coming months;

the San Esteban field, open to visitors and with archaeologists working on the ground, making important findings, and waiting for the tender to be tendered by the Ministry of Public Works;

the Old Prison, whose project will go out to tender in the coming weeks;

the pedestrianization of Alfonso X, the end of Phase I and the beginning of Phase II after Christmas;

the Greenway of the entire South Mountain Range, which is underway and will end this spring;

or the Pavilions of the Artillery Barracks, which will be ready in the summer. "

"My wish for this year is to be able to convey to Murcia the illusion to continue this project so ambitious and transformative.

In 2019 there are elections and we will submit ourselves with humility to the judgment of the Murcians about this team and this City project, "said José Ballesta.

Political stability

In the political sphere, José Ballesta praised that "the Corporation as a whole has set an example of coexistence and stability" and pointed out that "we have put people before ideologies and colors.

That has allowed us to agree with all those who wanted to agree and get important agreements for Murcia. "
