Serrano is betting on reconverting senior centers into spaces adapted to the current needs of meeting between users and recreation (28/12/2018)

The socialist candidate says he is concerned about the loneliness that many older people suffer and believes that the best tool to combat it is to gather them around their social centers, where they have to find all the services and activities they need.

The socialist candidate for the Mayor's Office of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, this morning held a meeting with members of the Federation of Social Centers for the Elderly of the Municipality of Murcia to learn about the management of these spaces as well as the development of daily services and the activity they generate.

For Serrano, "loneliness is one of the great problems to fight in our current society, which is why it considers the conversion of senior centers into spaces more in line with the needs of the 21st century, where each user finds the company and the Recreation that requires, can solve much of the isolation they suffer. "

He insists that "I am particularly worried about the loneliness of many of our elders and for that reason I am convinced that one of the best tools is to attract them to the centers, but for that we must transform these premises into more orderly spaces with different leisure areas where they have room for more services and, above all, they celebrate constant training and cultural activities ".

The socialist candidate believes that the centers should acquire greater functionality and "for this, it is necessary much more involvement and participation of its users, but also of an administration, as in this case the City of Murcia, in order that their activity does not they are circumscribed to two or three annual events and the rest of the year are moved by inertia, because we are dealing with a group that can be very dynamic and eager to contribute to their well-being, to make trips or guided visits or to take courses "

"The users of these social centers deserve to have facilities according to the current demands of the XXI century so that they feel theirs, like a second home, where they are surrounded by friends and colleagues and where they only have to think about being comfortable because their City Council it is taking care of the management of its centers and ensuring that they have the necessary resources, "Serrano points out.

Finally, the socialist candidate has invited those responsible for the Federation of Senior Centers to participate in the monographic event that the PSOE will soon hold.
