Ballesta and Valverde sign the agreement by which tomorrow the Bus Owl will connect 38 districts with the center of Murcia (20/12/2018)

José Ballesta: "This agreement is the materialization of one of the first actions included in the new Murcia Transport Model, for which we are working on the radical transformation of the current system, with new lines, frequencies and services."

The City Council finances with more than half a million euros these improvements that include the implementation of night service in 38 districts and also the extension of line 26, El Palmar-Murcia, which will now also serve the residents of Aljucer.

The Bus Owl will allow young people to travel safely every weekend and before a holiday.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, signed this morning the agreement that will allow the night service of Owl Bus to start working again on Friday and every weekend. the streets of the municipality of Murcia, connecting the districts with the center of the city.

The agreement also includes the extension of the line 26B, from San José de la Montaña to Murcia, by El Palmar, San Ginés and Aljucer.

The return and expansion of these public transport services are the result of an agreement between the two Administrations, for which the Town Hall of Murcia finances more than half a million euros -a total of 524,000 euros per year-, these lines are regionally owned.

The municipal initiative is part of the agreement that the government team reached with Citizens for the approval of the 2018 budgets.

"The objective is to recover, improve and expand this public service to provide greater cohesion in the municipal territory, linking the districts with the urban area and, above all, connecting people," said the mayor, who added that "the signature of today's agreement is the materialization of one of the first actions included in the new 'Transport Model of Murcia', a project in which we are working, which seeks the radical transformation of the current system, with new lines, frequencies and services for respond to the historical demands of the residents of the municipality. "

Bus Owl: Friday, Saturday and holiday eves

The Bus Owl will reconnect the districts with the city during weekend nights.

This fulfills the commitment announced by the City Council to recover this service that facilitates the mobility of young people in a comfortable and safe way.

For this, this service is established on lines 28 (Sangonera la Verde), 30 (Zeneta), 44 (Rincón de Beniscornia), 91 (Sangonera la Seca), 31 (Alquerías) and 36 (Cobatillas);

all with connection to the center of Murcia.

Specifically, the implementation of the new services will directly benefit a total of 38 districts with stop and direct connection: Sangonera la Verde, El Palmar, La Alberca, Santo Angel, Patiño, Zeneta, Los Ramos, Torreagüera, Beniaján, Algezares , Progreso district, Rincón de Beniscornia, La Ñora, Guadalupe, Espinardo, El Puntal, Cabezo de Torres, Sangonera la Seca, Alcantarilla, Javalí Nuevo, Puebla de Soto, La Raya, Era Alta, San Ginés, Aljucer, Alquerías, El Raal, Santa Cruz, Llano de Brujas, Bacons Bridge, Cobatillas, El Campillo, El Esparragal, Las Lumbreras, Monteagudo, La Cueva, Casillas and Zarandona.

There will be three one and three return expeditions in each of them on Fridays, Saturdays and Vespers, totaling 98 days of service and 3,528 annual expeditions, with the presence of security guards in all of them.

The price of the normal ticket will be 3 euros and 5 € if it is purchased roundtrip, but there will be a voucher available at a price of € 2.

The annual cost of these night services will be 372,938 euros.

Claiming the users of line 61

On the other hand, the improvement on line 26 responds to an old claim of the users of the missing line 61. The modification will involve the connection of the districts of San José de la Montaña, El Palmar and San Ginés, including also a new Stop at Aljucer.

In this case, 14 expeditions are established on weekdays and 5 on Saturdays, with an annual cost of 342,638 euros.

Municipal financing

The City of Murcia will contribute to the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia an amount amounting to 252,630.79 euros for line 26B and 271,589.69 euros for lines 28, 30, 44, 91, 31 and 36 (night services) , for the provision of the service in the period between December 21, 2018 and December 2, 2019.
