The PSOE takes a motion to the Plenary so that the Hacienda Board complies with the agreement and maintains the traditional irrigation network of La Huerta (19/12/2018)

The socialist councilor Enrique Ayuso considers it very necessary to "enhance the image of natural space of great historical and environmental value, their products and their heritage" and urges the City to clean subsidiary and then pass the bill to the owners of the land

The Municipal Socialist Group will present a motion to the plenary on Thursday to expand the collaboration agreement signed with the Board of Farmers of the Huerta de Murcia in January 2016 and include in it the firm requirement to the aforementioned Meeting of compliance of its maintenance and care responsibilities of the traditional irrigation network, the City Council being obliged to subsidiary cleaning if the agreement is not fulfilled.

The councilor of the PSOE Enrique Ayuso, who will defend this proposal before the Corporation, recalls that throughout the present mandate the City Council has approved more than twenty motions in defense of the Huerta de Murcia presented by the different groups with municipal representation.

"However, a fairly widespread perception is the weakness of our agroecological heritage of La Huerta and, in particular, the poor state of the traditional irrigation network on which it is based", points out the socialist mayor, who will quote in his presentation of tomorrow several of the initiatives put on the table.

Among them is the PSOE last June for the development of a Territorial Planning Plan in order to "enhance the image of the Huerta de Murcia, its products and their heritage."

Ayuso is also aware that since January 2016 there has been a framework agreement for collaboration between the City Council and the Board of Landowners, whose section 1.6 highlights the improvement and conservation of the hydraulic heritage as an objective.

In addition, section 2 of the agreement speaks of the necessary modernization of irrigation networks, maintenance work and conservation.

This agreement also establishes the establishment of a follow-up commission that will hold quarterly meetings.

"However, it is a verifiable fact the abandonment and neglect that characterizes most of the channels of our traditional irrigation, with lack of cleanliness of the channels, proliferation of canes in their limits, abundance of plagues of rodents, etcetera. an abandonment that, in many cases, is perversely used to justify the need for tubing in the face of the health risks of the people living in the environment ", explains Ayuso.

"The historic irrigation network of the Huerta de Murcia still in operation, which occupies more than 400 kilometers in length within the limits of the municipal area, must achieve the objective of preservation and integration in the surrounding spaces and, in addition to its functional hydraulic value and historical, it has a structuring potential of the territory, both because of its possibility of integration in spaces of public use and because of its role as a configurator of the landscape, as well as having a great environmental value for vegetation, fauna and landscape in general and for all this requires its preservation and empowerment ", adds the councilor of the PSOE.
