The international food and craft market Mixtura disembarks in the Carmen neighborhood (07/12/2018)

José Ballesta: "This initiative, which will bring together cultural expressions from the five continents, is the result of neighborhood participation."

On Saturday, December 15, the first edition of this street market will be held, which will be consolidated as a monthly appointment.

This first international market will bring out one of the hallmarks that the Carmelite people have defined in the participation phase of ADN Urbano: multiculturalism.

The mayor of Murcia José Ballesta, together with various councilors of the Government team of the City of Murcia, presented this morning Mixtura, the first international market in the neighborhood of El Carmen, "an initiative born of neighborhood participation in which we find gastronomy , products and cultural expressions of the five continents and that disembarks next Saturday, December 15, to be consolidated as a monthly appointment, "said the mayor.

"The project comes from the participation phase carried out with all the groups of the Carmen district, within the ADN Urbano project.

The main feature with which this neighborhood has been most identified is multiculturalism.

The number of people of different cultures and nationalities living in it.

We want to turn this multiculturalism into an opportunity for the Carmen neighborhood, "said the mayor.

Mixtura is a social project framed in Urban DNA that takes place in the neighborhood of El Carmen and for which an international gastronomic and artisan market is going to be carried out in which a dozen countries will be represented (Spain, Ukraine, Bolivia, Ecuador, Senegal, Nigeria, Morocco, Mexico and Colombia).

This event will be monthly (except for the months of January, July and August) and will be held on the streets Álvarez Quintero, Santa Úrsula and José María Párraga Square, from 10 am to 12 pm.

"We do it in the area of the neighborhood that best represents this multiculturalism, an area identified by the neighbors as a priority to act and that we want to revitalize with this project," said José Ballesta.

The market will be divided into two parts: the gastronomic zone, which will have stalls that will offer international meals from different countries, and for which it has counted on the advice of one of the greatest experts in gastronomy of the Region, Sergio Gallego;

and the craft area, where visitors can buy typical products of each nationality.

In addition, in this event you can enjoy workshops, music and the customs of different countries that will all meet in the same meeting for the first time, bringing all visitors to the culture and traditions of each of them.

Boosting neighborhood commerce and local hospitality

This new market, which encourages intercultural relations and knowledge of other cultures, will also provide an impetus for the neighborhood, its shops and its catering establishments, which will be able to exhibit their products and increase their sales.

The gastronomic stalls of this market are made up of locals from the neighborhood, making known their products and the typical food of their country.

Also, the hotel school will be present, which will offer a gastronomic menu of Murcian products.
