The pedestrians will gain 8,000 square meters of space with the execution of this project, which will complete the most important itinerary of the city, between the river and the Plaza Circular.
The project has a budget of 2.2 million euros and an execution period of 8 months.
In January it is expected that work can begin to complete the pedestrianization of Gran Via Alfonso X El Sabio, from its intersection with Jaime I El Conquistador street to the confluence with the Plaza Circular.
The Contracting Committee, chaired by Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, has agreed to request the documentation for the best valued offer, which has been presented by the UTE Edifesa-Construcciones and Obras Llorente, with a budget of 2,198,542 euros and a term of execution of 8 months.
The remodeling, which affects an area of ​​8,217 m2, involves the complete renovation of the pavement and the creation of a modern and uniform urban treatment space, completing the most important itinerary of the city, between the river and the Circular Plaza.
In this way, the new model of urban mobility is consolidated, based on the prominence of pedestrians and cyclists, which is now applied to one of the most representative arteries of Murcia.
It will keep the accessibility shot to neighbors and services, taxis, distributions and public services, garbage collection and street cleaning, and will respect the urban landscape and lighting conditions, taking into account the sustainability and quality of this public space, both for residents and for the rest of the citizens who daily use the central spaces of the boulevard.
This extends the restricted section of vehicle traffic between Jaime I and the historic center, making pedestrian traffic compatible with access to neighbors and services, not only in this area of ​​Alfonso X, but also to Santa Clara streets to Gran Vía and from Enrique Villar to the University.
In parallel, but segregated and signposted, there is a dual-lane bike path that runs through the whole walkway, while in the perimeter streets to the performance, Plaza Preciosa, Jaime I and Gutiérrez Mellado, the placement of garbage containers is resolved, taxi stops and loading and unloading areas.
The remodeling supposes an important environmental improvement of the space by means of the suppression of the road traffic;
lower noise pollution;
greater "habitable" surface and rethinking of street cleaning solution, etc.
Dismissal of the appeal
The processing of this file has been resumed today, once the ruling of the Central Administrative Court of Contractual Appeals has been received regarding an appeal filed by a company that filed an appeal when the Contracting Committee dismissed its bid to understand that it did not comply all the mandatory requirements.
Known the agreement of the TACRC favorable to the position of the City council, this morning has been able to continue with the procedure, so that the works could begin in January, not before the end of the Christmas holidays.
