The Contraparada Visitor Center continues its rehabilitation work with the aim of opening its doors in the spring (20/11/2018)

Councilman Antonio Navarro has visited the work of this project, which is part of the Plan of Action of the Huerta and aims to collect the values ​​of the Murcian garden and the Segura river.

From August the spaces and contents of the museographic part planned for this space with images, recordings, etc., are being prepared.

The Councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, Antonio Navarro, has visited today the works that are being developed in the environment of the Contraparada, in Javalí Viejo, planned in the execution project of the Visitor Center of the Contraparada.

"It is one of the most relevant actions of the Plan of Action of the Huerta that is being developed by the City Council and will be a reference for the knowledge and appreciation of the natural, landscape, cultural, historical and ethnographic values ​​of the Segura River and the Huerta de Murcia "declares Navarro.

It is divided in two parts.

On the one hand, the execution of the refurbishment works of the building in which the center will be housed, whose work began in October, and whose objective is to provide it with an environment in keeping with the exhibition theme.

On the other hand, since August the spaces and contents of the museographic part foreseen in the project are being prepared.

To do this, we work on defining content, making images and making scripts of the different audiovisuals.

Also, recordings have been made in the mills and mills of Murcia, the Molinos del Río and some locations next to the Castillejo de Monteagudo and a team consisting of a photographer, a designer and a historian is responsible for selecting the images that most Later they will be used in the graphic panels.

Understand, know and keep

Before the end of the year the tasks included in the part of the work will end, so that in January the actions with the supply and installation of the museographic part, both furniture, as models, information panels and technological elements, will continue.

"Among the main objectives of the center stands out the intention of facilitating a first contact with the environment of the Contraparada, and with the whole of the Murcian orchard and its river, encouraging the visitor to understand, know and conserve it, revealing the meaning of the aspects natural, cultural, historical, landscape and ethnographic of the orchard and encouraging an attitude of citizen participation and respect towards these values ​​"adds the councilor.

The center will have an interpretative space, distributed over two floors, in which will be installed a complete set of interpretative supports based on modules and three-dimensional exhibitions that combine volumes with text, graphic media and technological media and incorporate a varied range of visual proposals, of audio and interactive.

Innovative technologies

The exhibition of the contents will count on the use of innovative technologies that will enhance and improve the understanding of the contents, and will be better adapted to the characteristics of the intended audience (outdoor recording cameras, laser projectors, 360º content and reality glasses) virtual, etc ...).

The ground floor will be used for the reception of visitors, where information about all aspects of the center will be offered, including a multimedia guide, and the possibility of downloading QR programs for mobile devices that will help to complete the contents of the visit.

It will also have a multipurpose room, which will be a dynamic space for its use as an assembly hall and multifunctional space, suitable for conducting workshops and seminars, screenings, presentations, temporary exhibitions, talks, etc.

It will also have an audiovisual room.

The contents of four thematic areas will be displayed on the top floor:

- Thematic Area 1, which reflects the origin, history and evolution of the Segura River, the huerta and the Contraparada;

- Thematic Area 2 aimed at explaining the crops and uses in the garden of Murcia, focusing on traditional agricultural techniques, local varieties, biodiversity in crops, the use of auxiliary and ornamental plants, the main products of the garden of Murcia and the local cuisine;

- Theme 3, dedicated to identity and culture huertana.

Through a suggestive audiovisual strategy, he takes a tour through the culture of the vegetable garden, the main tasks of an orchard and his family, as well as the new uses that are now being given to the surroundings of the Segura River and the cultivation area;

- Thematic Field 4, aimed at the interpretation of the main ecological and environmental values ​​of La Contraparada, Segura River and Murcia Huerta

Citizen testimonials

The upper floor will also have a self-recording room, in which visitors who wish may record their own testimonies about the garden, and can select through a chroma screen different background images for recording.

On the other hand, the design and preparation of a 1.84 km long circular path or exterior itinerary will be planned, which will run alongside the building, along which cultural, historical and ethnographic elements of the surroundings will be displayed, as well as the diversity of habitats characteristic of riparian environments and the orchard.

The itinerary will have an audioguide, information signs, signage and two bird observatories to observe and enjoy the species that inhabit the environment.
