A 12-meter floral portico on the Bridge of Dangers receives the patron saint of the city tomorrow (29/08/2018)

The arch, made up of more than 7,000 floral elements and 75 meters of garlands, is a recreation of the classical arches with modernist touches that adorned the city in the past.

Coinciding with the arrival of Fuensanta to the bridge, we will proceed to the climb of the Virgen de los Peligros to her dressing room.

The Fuensanta will be wrapped from El Carmen to the Cathedral by a procession of honor and three horses that will carry the flags of the city of Murcia, the Region and Spain.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, and the Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, Jesus Pacheco, today supervised the installation works of the floral arch that will grace the Bridge of the Dangers, during the Fair of September 2018 and that tomorrow afternoon will receive the Virgen de la Fuensanta.

The mayor also announced today at Puente de Hierro, which is 300 years since its construction began in 1718, the novelties that have been incorporated this year to the processional procession that will accompany the Patron Saint from El Carmen to the Cathedral.

The design of the portico, which has a height of 12 m, with two columns of 6 m and an arch of a radius of 7 m, is a replica of the classic arches with modernist dyes that adorned the city in the past, recovering a tradition of the Fair of Murcia.

The portico is made up of more than 7,000 floral elements: 6,250 branches of boxwood, 200 branches of aromatic eucalyptus, 200 branches of ivy from the farmhouse of Alquerías and 600 branches of olive-colored ash.

The two large vases that crown each of the columns of the arch are decorated with 30 river jopos.

In addition, 75 m of garlands and 300 m of decorative satin ribbons are being installed.

The installation of the arch has begun this morning early and will continue throughout the day, so that everything is ready tomorrow, Thursday, in the face of the descent of the Patron Saint, who will leave her Shrine at 3.30 p.m. and arrive at 7.30 p.m. Carmen, for later transfer to the Cathedral.

The arch is crowned on both sides with two large shields of Murcia 2 m high.

To both sides six flags of Murcia, the Region and Spain have been placed, like those that presided over the old arcs of the city.

This year, it will have a special lighting for the night with 4,000 microluces that outline the columns and the arch.

In addition, garlands of flowers and plants will decorate the existing street lamps on both sides of the bridge.

The arch preserves the architectural environment and its elements, not requiring anchors or fixings.

A procession of honor will tuck the Patron to the Cathedral

With respect to the arrival of the patron, the mayor said that the procession of the Virgin from his departure from the church of Carmen until his arrival at the Cathedral will be composed of three horses that will carry the flags of Spain, the Region and Murcia, representatives of Moors and Christians, Federation of Sardiners, Peñas Huertanas (which will carry a small group that will play folklore pieces), Cabildo Superior de Cofradías, Gloria de Murcia Brotherhoods, Ladies of Honor Court of the Virgen de la Fuensanta and the Brotherhood of Gentlemen.

The Patron, who will go after these official representations, will be escorted by four local policemen dressed in the formal dress.

As the main novelty, upon reaching the bridge, we will proceed to the rise of the Virgen de los Peligros to her dressing room, after spending several months in custody (as every year) for the sun and high temperatures that can affect the integrity of the image during the summer period.

"Besides," the mayor explained, "this year a group of young Murcians have taken the initiative to throw the petals of more than 6,000 roses from the highest part of the City Hall on the Virgen de la Fuensanta."
