The water replenishes the acequias of the palm groves of Santiago and Zaraiche. (17/06/2018)

The palm grove of Santiago and Zaraiche will soon hear the sound of water running through the different ditches that make up more than 9,000 square meters.

"The Park and Garden Service and the concessionaire company STV Gestión want to continue betting on the more traditional values of irrigation, based on the old irrigation system for the opening and closing of planks", explains the mayor of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development , José Guillén.

These irrigation works are carried out by two people for two days, since it requires the opening of some gates to run the water, and the closure of others so that it arrives correctly at its destination.

In this way, and always using traditional tools, is still betting on the roots of Murcia in a space that is fully open to the public who wishes to visit it.

The irrigation of these 600 palm trees is now produced so that these specimens are prepared to withstand the summer heat.

"What we want is that people in Murcia places where they still use the oldest and most characteristic methods of Murcia's garden when it comes to caring and, of course, irrigating a green area like this over 9,000 meters square ", explains the mayor Guillén.
