Navarro: "We have to find a balance between neighbors and hoteliers" (18/04/2018)

The councilor for Urbanism, Environment, Water and Garden has stressed that "all involved have to seek agreement and put the common good."

"You just have to go on a Friday at 1 am in certain areas of the city center to see that you have to take measures to avoid noise nuisance"

The councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, Antonio Navarro, has reported that "we work on solving a real problem in certain areas of Murcia where neighbors can not rest because of the noise. seek agreement and be aware that we must find a point of equilibrium in which we all have to give in to achieve the common good in the interest of the general interest ".

"The proposed measures have been approved in other cities, such as Madrid and Valencia, in which it has been shown to be effective and thanks to which it has been possible to reconcile the local rest with the proper functioning of the hotel establishments and their terraces And this is what we want in our municipality, "said Navarro.

According to the councilor, "we have to work hand in hand with all the agents involved, such as hoteliers and neighbors, to achieve a balance and a meeting point between what each one wants." The City Council is open to agreeing on measures that allow us to enjoy our terraces at the same time that we respect the rest of the neighbors ".

Navarro added that "from the City we are firm supporters of the agreement and we are convinced that hoteliers and neighbors will be able to reach the maximum consensus to achieve this good coexistence. We will study any measure that can help find a balance point".

"The measurement with sound level meters is something that technically certifies the noises that the neighbors support but it is only necessary to spend a Friday at 1 am in certain areas of the city center to verify that measures have to be taken to avoid this situation and guarantee the rest of the neighbors, "said the mayor.

Navarro explained that "the main actions included in the new proposed regulation are more preventive than restrictive since they are aimed at avoiding the creation of new terraces in already saturated areas, maintaining the existing ones although regulating their schedule".

"The hospitality industry will always have our support because it is essential in our municipality because it generates employment, it is a tourist attraction and is part of the way of life of Murcia, so we will adopt measures to promote the orderly growth of the sector" , Navarro has finished.
