The Government Team takes the first steps for the radical transformation of urban transport in the municipality (21/03/2018)

One of the purposes is that there is a single bus concession |

The Transportation Committee, chaired by the Councilor for Finance, Contracting and Urban Mobility, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, has studied this morning the guidelines to be followed for the analysis and study of a new transport model in Murcia that will come into effect next year .

Councilman Martínez-Oliva explained that "it is time to face the transformation of transport in the municipality of Murcia, with the City Council which assumes the ownership of all lines that circulate in the municipality, both in the urban area and in districts , and unifying the transport system, this should contribute to an improvement of the service, a greater coordination between lines and a better tariff policy, thus achieving a much more effective system than the current one.

All this is to be done with the greatest consensus and with the broadest participation of political groups and neighborhood groups for which, the councilor has already told the members of the Transportation Bureau that he is open to all those suggestions that may contribute to a improvement of what is intended to be the new transport model for the future of the municipality, both in the urban area and in the districts

The meeting was attended by the General Director of Transport of the Autonomous Community, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, representatives of the municipal political groups and the main concession companies (Transportes de Murcia, Latbus and Travía de Murcia), representatives of the Federation of Associations de Comercio, the most representative consumer association in the municipality, the Municipal Bicycle Observatory, Ecologists in Action and the company committees of public transport service concessionaires.

To design this new transport model will be studied in detail the lines linking Murcia with the districts, the municipal concession lines of the urban area of the city and the tram.

In addition, various studies and documents will be taken into account such as the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (horizon 2022), the Regional Transportation Master Plan currently in process, the municipal concession contracts, the Bicycle Master Plan, the Air Pollution Protocol and the regional, state and European regulations.

Murcia City Council will be responsible for the configuration of the municipal network of urban transport, both in infrastructure and services, establishing the basic levels of provision and the need for modification or implementation of infrastructure that is deemed necessary to ensure efficient operation (parking deterrents among others), as well as the requirements and characteristics of regular urban transport services of public responsibility.

Likewise, the conclusions of possible imbalances between supply and demand will be established, establishing strategies and actions to correct these situations.

In addition, the City Council will define the system of financing and economic management and the tariff regime and schedules that foster intermodal communication at the municipal level and from there with the regional one.

The Mersa del Transporte has determined the need to establish an urban transport to districts that converge in certain intermodal points, to connect with a high capacity transport in the center of Murcia.

For this purpose, the services of a specialized consultant will be hired whose function will be the analysis of the flow of passengers, configuration of the new municipal network, determination of the tariff system, technical prescriptions of the bidding and economic management, among others.
