The municipal Plenary approves an institutional declaration for the tourist impulse of the Cathedral of Murcia (22/02/2018)

The municipal plenary session has approved in its session today an institutional declaration for the signing of an agreement between the City Council and the Diocese of Cartagena for the tourist boost of the Cathedral of Murcia.

According to the text approved this building "is an artistic and architectural reference of the Spanish Baroque and is one of the main tourist attractions of the city of Murcia." Both the temple and the Cathedral Museum that houses, are two poles of attraction of visitors and are, In addition, places of recurrent visit for the residents of the municipality, therefore, the public authorities, in their work of tourism and economic promotion, must contribute to the consolidation of the Cathedral and the Museum as two facilitators of the cultural and tourist activity of the city".

To make the Cathedral of Murcia and its Museum two dynamic elements of the tourist and cultural offer of the municipality, all Municipal Groups urge "the City of Murcia to sign a collaboration agreement with the Diocese of Cartagena, owner of the Cathedral Church of Santa María ".

This agreement must contemplate, among others, actions such as the adaptation of the opening hours of the Cathedral and the Museum to the habits of tourists, especially those from other countries, the joint promotion of visits to both spaces, either from Free form, or through the guided tours offered by the Diocese and the carrying out of promotional actions in order to spread the Cathedral and the Museum as points of tourist interest ".
