Now Murcia denounces important risks for users of artillery barracks and for pedestrians when large events are mounted on their patio (19/10/2017)

- The Ministry of Education undertook an inspection in 2016 at the barracks yard during the assembly of a macro concert and reflected in its minutes important hazards, such as electrical hazards and falling iron

- Alicia Morales states that "the courtyard of the Artillery Barracks is not the place to perform macro concerts or huge events, which collide frontally with the daily activity of the centers located in the Barracks and whose assembly also poses risks

NOW MURCIA denounces that the City of Murcia has for years organized large events or collaborating in them, and giving space to private companies to perform macro concerts in the courtyard of the Artillery Barracks, creating important situations of risk and danger for users of the different spaces of the Barracks and for any pedestrians who travel in this area.

"In the different pavilions of the complex are, among other spaces, a public nursery, a municipal library, the aquarium of the UMU or a cafeteria," says Alicia Morales, "in addition to the Professional Conservatory of Music of Murcia, more than 1,000 students and the vast majority of them are minors.

The municipal group has for months denounced the risk that it assumes for the users of the Barracks and pedestrians the assembly of big events in its central patio, and making requests of information in writing to different councils.

"Our belief that potentially dangerous situations are created with the setting up of these events has been endorsed," notes the councilor, "with the minutes issued by the Ministry of Education after an inspection in July 2016 for the assembly of a macro The report is devastating, as it points to events such as "the electrical apparatus located next to the main facade of the Conservatory represents a clear risk of electrical contact" or that there is "an obvious risk of falling irons ".

"Despite all these dangers, which should be unquestionable to anyone who sees them, and before anyone else to the administration," say Murcia Now, "there have been a multitude of macro concerts and other major events in this central courtyard. More seriously, these events have continued to be organized after the City Council became aware of the worrying outcome of the Education Inspection, which could be a very serious recklessness on the part of the Ballesta Government. "

Alicia Morales points out that there is already at least one event scheduled for the next few months in the courtyard of the Artillery Barracks, organized directly by the City Council: a new edition of 'Murcia Moves', scheduled for November 4.

The report of the Autonomous Community emphasizes that the place where access to the Conservatory was "fully occupied by the assembly activities" and emphasizes that they operated in that space "trucks of great tonnage".

The situation obliged to accede to the Conservatory "bordering the movable billboards that have been installed and between operarios and vehicles", and all being "the main entrance of the building the main way of evacuation of the center".

Regarding the installation of electrical equipment and the consequent "clear" electrical risk, the act implies that these "installation tasks coincide with the transfer of students and staff from the center".

On the other hand, on the "obvious risk of falling irons" points out that these become at a "height of approximately 15 meters."

The Councilor emphasizes that in addition to the dangerous situation involved in the setting up of these major events, the users of the adjacent facilities - Conservative, nursery, library ... - as these users have been denouncing for years " noise that is realized during the assembly, to sum that later there is sound tests and tests, with a very high volume ".

Faced with all these facts, the spokeswoman for Now Murcia states that "the courtyard of the Artillery Barracks is not the place to perform macro concerts or huge events, which collide head-on with the daily activity of the centers located in the Barracks and whose assembly entails risks for users of facilities and pedestrians. "

"In short," he concludes, "the Government of Ballesta should be clear that the courtyard of the Artillery Barracks is not an enclosure. fair, and must promptly and rigorously rethink the uses that are given to it. "
