Culinary tastings, prizes, workshops, product exposition and more activities to celebrate the Second Edition of the Harvest Festival (17/08/2017)

This activity, which will take place on 30 September, is part of the activities organized by the Leisure Gardens Network.

Murcia has 144 plots for Leisure Gardens, with a total area of ​​15,361 m2, distributed in 11 different areas of the Municipality

The Councilor for Town Planning, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro presented this morning the Second Edition of the Harvest Festival to be held on 30 September in the gardens of leisure of Aljucer and which is part of the activities organized for The users of the Network of Leisure Gardens.

This event consists of a day of coexistence in the area of ​​leisure gardens where all users can bring the products obtained in the plots they grow to expose them and offer their experience to others.

Also it is wanted to show the culinary gifts of the users who can contribute dishes elaborated with recipes of the products of season that they cultivate.

For this reason, the City Council has planned the award of three prizes: one, the most original and innovative dish elaborated;

Another, the more traditional, and a third, the more complete basket, all with seasonal products grown in the gardens of leisure.

The prize for each of the categories will be a gift check valued at 100 euros.

Navarro stated that "the goal of this day is to share experiences and knowledge, to become a day of recognition to the efforts of all who participate in this project.

In this way, we want to encourage you to continue to enjoy the Leisure Gardens and all the activities we do from the City Hall to support and help them.

An example of this was the activities of the 'Huertulias', talks about agriculture for users in which more than 100 people participated.

The program of activities for this third Harvest Festival will be as follows:

- 10:00.

Opening of the information booth of the City of Murcia.

- 10:30.

Welcome and reception of the participants.

Coexistence for the exchange of experiences, seeds, products, etc.

- 11: 00-13: 00.

Direct realization of several workshops aimed at the users of the leisure orchards.

- 11:00.

Exhibition of cultivated products.

- 11: 30-13: 30.

Realization of games and children's toys related to the garden.

- 12:30.

Award ceremony: the most original and innovative dish and the most traditional.

Also to the tray or more complete basket of seasonal products grown in the gardens of leisure.

- 13:00.

Tasting recipes with products from the orchards.

- 2:00 p.m.

Closing of the Harvest Festival.

The mayor has encouraged the citizens to attend this third edition and "enjoy this event where the garden will be the protagonist and in which you can enjoy all the products that offers us thanks to the work and dedication of the users of The Orchards of Leisure ".

Balance of the Gardens of Leisure 2017

At present the municipality of Murcia has 144 plots destined to Huertos de Ocio, with a total area of ​​15,361 m2, distributed in 11 different zones.

These Huertos de Ocio are distributed in various districts and districts such as Ronda Sur, in the Garden of the Lake, which has 10 plots awarded in a total of 2,562 square meters, in Sangonera la Verde where there are 14 lands in 1,267 square meters Or in Santiago El Mayor that has 9 plots in 953 square meters.

They also have Espinardo Leisure Gardens (in Joven Futura) where there are 2 plots in 1,400 meters, in Churra with 15 plots in 946 square meters and in San Pío X 2 of 200 square meters.

Also in Guadeloupe, 13 lands of 1,030 square meters are established, in Santo Ángel 11 plots of 861 square meters, in Aljucer 44 plots spread over 4,150 square meters, in Beniaján 11 plots with a total of 784 square meters and finally in El Puntal With 13 plots in 1,208 square meters.

The distribution of Leisure Gardens by plots by population sectors is 70% for retirees, 17% for unemployed, 8% for active people and 5% for Associations and other entities.

New projects

As of September 1st, the orchards of El Puntal were inaugurated and won by lottery on February 28, 2017.

In addition, the new orchards in the hamlet of Sangonera La Verde are being completed, 4 of these plots have already been awarded in the drawing of 28 February 2017 pending a new extraordinary call for the allocation of remaining plots .

Navarro has concluded that "Leisure Gardens encompass and promote numerous environmental values ​​as they seek the conservation of local varieties in danger of extinction, maintenance of an agroecosystem of great interest as is the Old Orchard of Murcia and are used for training purposes And educational services serving as a fundamental tool in the dissemination of these values. "

The Municipal Leisure Gardens are spaces conditioned by the City of Murcia, and managed by the Environment Service, for the cultivation of vegetables in a self-consumption, non-profit, combining social, educational, environmental and patrimonial benefits.

This activity is offered by public call to the citizens of Murcia, giving preference to those who are retired, pre-retired or unemployed.

Non-profit citizen entities with social insertion projects may also opt for a plot.

Applicants must be residents in the municipality of Murcia and comply with all established in the general rules of use.

The orchards are awarded by public draw for a period of 2 years, with option to renew.

They can be visited by different groups (Colleges, Associations, etc.) in order to publicize the activities developed in them, and to instill values ​​on traditional and ecological agriculture.

The last public call for an ordinary call was made on December 20, 2016, and plots were awarded by lottery on February 28, 2017.
