This study, carried out on 442 patients at the Reina Sofía Hospital in Murcia, concluded that cardiac rehabilitation programs, which are based mainly on moderate-intensity aerobic exercise and control of cardiovascular risk factors, reduce mortality, reduce The risk of new cardiovascular events and improve secondary prevention in coronary patients.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of this cardiac rehabilitation in patients who have suffered an infarction, angina pectoris or have undergone percutaneous or surgical revascularization.
In addition, the importance of these programs in promoting lifestyle changes and monitoring of major risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, weight, or cessation of smoking has been highlighted.
The thesis, led by Drs. Tomás Vicente and Diego Roldán, has made it possible to know the role of the Rehabilitation Unit of the Reina Sofía General University Hospital as an effective intervention in the optimization of the treatment of coronary patients.
