Sensors in the ficus of Santo Domingo and Floridablanca will monitor their status in real time guaranteeing safety (13/08/2017)

The Council for Modernization of Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, led by José Guillén, is installing sensors in the ficus of the plaza of Santo Domingo and the ten that are in the garden of Floridablanca in order to monitor their status In real time and thus ensure security.

Guillén explained that "the objective of the action is to increase the safety controls of these trees by constantly monitoring the environmental conditions of humidity of the tree environment, ie, ambient temperature and humidity, leaf moisture and soil moisture. This will be taken continuous measure of the thickness of several branches, in different orientations ".

Thanks to this pioneering initiative, since it is the first time in all Spain that is realized in ornamental trees - they were only installed in fruit trees -, will be placed close to 70 sensors in the ficus of the place of Santo Domingo and in the ten ficus Of the garden of Floridablanca.

This permanent data collection will allow to have enough data to determine a history to be able to predict situations of stress of the tree and to minimize the risks, with the consequent increase of the levels of security of the same, thanks to technologies Big Data and algorithms of intelligence Predictive artificial we can monitor the constants of the tree and have enough data so that the municipal specialists can determine the actions to be taken at any time and minimize the risks of falling branches that maximize safety levels.

According to the councilman, "the mere fact of having the data provided by the tree and its surroundings allows us to walk an important path towards the solution of the problem that can mean the fall of branches on the public road."

The technology that will be used to take the constants and monitor the data of the tree is a technology of last generation of Smart Cities (Internet of Things or Internet of Things) in which a device of low energy consumption will store the constants of the tree Every minute, and send them to a cloud system where all the data will be stored.

This data will be sent through a wireless system of low consumption and can be monitored through the fixed or mobile devices of the technicians of the City of Murcia.

The device will have a zero visual and ecological impact on the tree, since it is a device of small size and great visual integration in its surroundings.

In addition, this device will be able to interact with auxiliary elements of the tree as its irrigation, providing us with information on how much has been the amount of water with which it has been irrigated and even drive the own irrigation at specific times or the spray systems to cool it and Reduce ambient temperature or increase the relative humidity of the environment.

The system has the possibility of integrating warnings and warnings so that the specialists of the City Council are perfectly informed of the state of the environment surrounding the trees and that they ostensibly influence them with the consequent increase of the levels of security of the tree and its environment.

This monitoring system is one more element of MiMurcia solutions as an information and sounding platform for the different services of the City of Murcia.

This will make it possible, through the smart city platform and CEUS, that both citizens and city council technicians can have continuous information on the state of the city and its resources, such as its most emblematic ornamental trees.

MiMurcia will bring to the citizen the state of its resources and will allow to press at all times the situation of Murcia.

The devices are designed to be powered by solar energy and also have a state-of-the-art design that allows them to have a minimum energy consumption, and minimal impact on the environment.

The City Council promotes this project through public-private partnership, company and university, to be a pioneer in the field of Smart Cities adapting the technology to the specific needs of the municipality and its singularities.
