Let's change Murcia requires the municipality of Murcia more control and vigilance against illegal irrigation (10/08/2017)

Councilman Sergio Ramos asks the councilor for Urbanism, Environment and Huerta Navarro Corchón if he had evidence of the alleged illegal land clearance and what initiatives the city council has taken in this regard.

Following the denunciation of the Association of Naturists of the Southeast (ANSE) to the Hydrographic Confederation of the Segura (CHS) and the Autonomous Community for the existence of machines working in La Murta for an alleged illegal scrapping of land for new irrigation, Demands to the city council to know if has been applied for the corresponding permits and the reports elaborated by the municipal services in this respect.

Ramos has demanded to the Department of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta greater controls to detect and avoid burrens of land for the installation of illegal irrigation.

The sector group Huerta and Modelo de Ciudad de Cambiemos Murcia says that these breakdowns have such dire consequences as the erosion of the land, the transformation of the traditional rural environment, the impoverishment of biodiversity and the great consumption of water and fertilizers that involves placing Irrigated land.

At the same time the traditional vegetable garden is abandoned and its fertile land is destroyed with concrete and asphalt.

The City Council should be very clear about the irrigated areas (traditional orchard) and those of rainfed, acting with forcefulness before the possible agricultural transformations.

Thus Ramos has warned of the risk that continuing to increase irrigation without any type of control entails enormous environmental damages and a low competitiveness of the Murcia field, since the farmers who comply with the regulations are in "clear disadvantage against those who have illegal irrigations" .

"That's why we believe that both the City Council and other public administrations should exercise more control, especially when the debate over water is burning," said the mayor, who needs to "be fully rigorous so that you know where Goes the water and its uses ".
