The rector of the UMU advances its intention to increase the research contracts (21/02/2017)

The rector of the University of Murcia (UMU), Jose Orihuela, today announced its intention to increase considerably the number of predoctoral contracts and postdoctoral contracts of reinstatement.

The announcement was made during the presentation of credentials of these contracts, which are co-financed by Banco Santander and held today in the Hemicycle of Letters, on the campus of La Merced.

The idea of ​​the team that presides, the Rector pointed out, is to increase the first from twelve to twenty, and the others from four to ten, as well as increase the duration of the latter, to move from two years to five.

During the event, the credentials of the ten contracts for the incorporation of research staff with highly qualified technical profile to research groups (PIT2) have also been submitted.

The Vice Chancellor of Research, Antonio Juan García, highlighted the importance that UMU gives to scientific activity, in addition to thanking the collaboration received from Banco Santander.

For his part, the Vice-rector for Coordination and Internationalization, Bernardo Cascales, has shown the same gratitude and highlighted that the UMU is among the first in Spain because of the demand it registers, and added that two thirds of the resources that reach the Region by investigation are obtained by the scientific activity that is developed in the same.

Referring to the collaboration of the aforementioned bank, the vice-rector commented that it is not limited to financing pre- and postdoctoral contracts, but extends to actions in other areas, such as COIE, International Relations, digitization of the University Library And courses at the International University of the Sea (UNIMAR).

The area director of Universities of Banco Santander, Beatriz Villegas, recalled that the collaboration between her institution and the UMU began twenty years ago and highlighted the preference that this institution of higher education provides research and defense of the Quality and knowledge transfer.

In addition, he said that the UMU is a benchmark at the national level and has expressed its gratitude to the rector for the importance he gives to the research activity.

Finally, it has said that this savings entity maintains its commitment to support the universities, as evidenced by the fact, in addition to the resources allocated to them, that currently 1,200 university institutions around the world with which Collaborative agreements have been signed.
