The City Council finalizes the lighting works of the San Esteban Site (14/11/2019)

The actions are being developed in the accesses and the streets, as well as in the excavation spaces.

The environment will be illuminated with an electric power of 11,664 watts, using a 375 meter LED strip and eight projectors.

"It is a system of lighting respectful of the archaeological site, which will reproduce the streets as they were originally in the suburb and illuminate the different areas with different colors," said Councilman José Guillén.

The Councilor for Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration, José Guillén, visited the San Esteban Site this morning to check the lighting work being carried out in the archaeological site.

The actions are being developed to illuminate the accesses and the streets, as well as in the spaces of the excavations.

"This is a system of lighting respectful of the archaeological site, which will reproduce the streets as they were originally in the suburb and illuminate areas with different colors," said Councilman José Guillén.

In this way, for the accesses and the streets, an ultra low consumption LED luminaire will be installed, with which a flush lighting will be generated, sufficient to facilitate nighttime circulation and to signal the routes and make the perimeter streets visible of the site.

The lighting system has been built on site to achieve a perfect adaptation, will be perched on the ground, without any subjection to the ground and partially hidden.

Following the instructions of archaeologists, the areas where the excavations are located will be illuminated with LED projectors.

Specifically, the whole of San Esteban will be illuminated with an electric power of 11,664 watts, of which 10,800 correspond to the 375 meter LED strip that will be used for the streets and 864 for the eight projectors that will be located in the different spaces of the archaeological environment .

The annual energy consumption of the installation, considering that it is an ornamental type and will work until midnight, with a daily average of 3.85 hours, will be 16,400 kWh.

"This lighting system will not generate light pollution and will allow observation from its perimeter at night, whose route will be distinguished with lights of different colors," said Councilman José Guillén.

These works are being carried out by the company Lumen Eléctricas for 39,206 euros and the installation is expected to be fully operational for the month of December.

The Department of Urban Development and Modernization of the Administration carries out these actions through its Public Lighting service, in collaboration with the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Youth, directed by Rebeca Pérez, as well as in coordination with the municipal archaeologists and the team of researchers from the University of Murcia, led by Jorge Eiroa.
