The Department of Social and Family Rights organizes different actions on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2019. The Municipal Team for Gender Violence Care has attended in the first ten months of this year 266 women in the municipality .

The Department of Social and Family Rights, directed by Pilar Torres, will launch different actions on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2019 that is celebrated on November 25.

Thus, the most innovative action in the campaign to raise awareness about gender violence is aimed at commercial establishments, shopping centers and public facilities in the municipality, both in the urban area and in districts.

The awareness and information campaign presented in 2019 is based on conveying the emotion of the loss of human lives that represents sexist violence for women, with 51 women killed by their partners or ex-partners so far this year.

"The image focuses on representing the absence and loss of those lives, with what this entails. It is about transmitting pain, but also anger and rejection of violence against women, while also involving society to all of it in this scourge, "said the Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres.

For this, it has been agreed with the associations of merchants of the municipality to install exhibitors with information leaflets in their establishments and in the markets and supply places, also informing of public resources to get out of these situations.

Stickers will also be installed in shops and public facilities, declaring those spaces 'zones free of sexist violence', as an expression of the commitment of the establishments and institutions, with the eradication of violence.

The campaign will also be reinforced with urban and indoor signage.

The purpose of this campaign is to sensitize these establishments and commit them to collaborate to eliminate violence against women, conveying to them that this commitment is an added social value to their business or company.

In addition, on November 18, the Rex Cinema will host, at 20 hours, the screening of the documentary 'Fly', with free admission until full capacity is reached.

'Valor' is carried out by the Basque Women's Institute, Emakunde, which aims to publicize the lives of 9 women who have been victims of gender-based violence and tell about the process.

This activity is aimed at the general public and women's associations and centers in particular, intending to intensify feelings of empathy with victims of gender violence, to understand this problem and be aware that it can happen to any woman.

After the viewing of the documentary a colloquium will be held.

Another of the activities organized is the conference of the Magistrate of the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court Vicente Magro Servet that will be held on November 22, at 5:00 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the building annexed to the City Hall.

The conference is aimed at professionals in the field of gender violence, university students, staff in the field of justice, professional associations, universities ...

Finally, on November 25, the institutional act will take place whose objective is to make visible the commitment of the City of Murcia with the eradication of violence towards women and support for victims.

The Murcia Prize in Equality will be awarded at the event to individuals and / or entities that have stood out for their actions against gender-based violence and support for victims.

This year the Award is granted to all women victims of gender violence in the municipality, being represented by several women who have been treated by EMAVI and have overcome the situation of gender violence.

In this way they recognize their courage, transmitting the message that there is a way out of this problem, that they should ask for help and that it is possible to resume life without fear, without violence, with autonomy and freedom.

The Councilor for Social and Family Rights, Pilar Torres, stressed that "this campaign to raise public awareness aims to compromise and involve society in the elimination of violence against women. We want Murcia not to tolerate any discrimination against women, do not reproduce sexist stereotypes, denounce situations of violence and discrimination against women, establish limits and safe spaces for women, and always show their grief and rejection and the aggressions and murders of women "

Murcia, pioneer in comprehensive care for women victims of violence

The City of Murcia was a national pioneer in launching a comprehensive and specialized care resource, the EMAVI, which was created in 1986 and currently has four social educators, a social worker, two psychologists, a legal advisor and a coordinator.

It also has the necessary resources to welcome women and their children who, for reasons of protection and security, have to leave their homes, and may be accommodated for a period of up to 12 months.

The total number of reception places is 15.

From the team, direct attention is given to women, through guidance, specialized professional advice (socio-educational, psychological and legal) and accompaniment in their personal process, aimed at achieving the emotional, social and economic independence of the aggressor, training women to Develop an autonomous life.

Personalized attention is focused on assessing the situation of each woman, prioritizing the protection and safety of her and the dependent children, assessing the risk, and making available the necessary resources to get out of this situation.

From the beginning of the intervention, special importance is attached to the process of rebuilding self-esteem and identity, through socio-educational and psychological intervention, as well as legal guidance and information.

In the intervention process, special attention is given to giving the voice and decision-making capacity to the woman herself, taking into account her will and decision at all times, since part of the consequences of the situation she has suffered is depersonification and the absence of decision making about his own life.

The empowerment process is essential to overcome this situation, making it aware of the situation of violence, and recovering it from its consequences, enhancing its personal and social capacities and potentials so that it is not dominated and does not dominate anyone.

In the first ten months of this year 2019, 266 women from the municipality have been treated.

In the same period of the previous year there were 246 in the cases attended.

Torres explained "there is no specific profile of women who suffer gender-based violence. Women from all walks of life, from all socio-economic and cultural levels, from all ages and from all cultures and religions represented in our municipality continue to be served. ".

The profile of women served by the EMAVI is similar to that of previous years.

65% are Spanish women and 35% foreigners of 25 different nationalities, the most numerous of which are foreign women from Morocco 14%, followed by Bolivia and Ecuador 4% and 3%, respectively.

Another significant variable is the ages of the women attended, ranging from cases of children under 18 (5 cases) to more than 60 years (9 cases).

Regarding the level of education, it occurs at all educational levels: the most common situation is that corresponding to secondary studies, with 39.10% (104), with 12.03% being cases of women with university studies ( 32).

The average number of dependent children per woman served is 1.24, with the highest percentage being women with 1 dependent child, 29.32%.

Regarding employment, working women account for 34.96.

Regarding the type of abuse, 104 (39'10%) women suffer physical and psychological abuse and 90 psychological abuse (33.83%)

Regarding the aggressor, it is the ex-partner who represents the highest percentage with 53'38% of the cases, followed by the couple, ex-boyfriend and boyfriend.

It also includes as an important aspect the situations of disability of the women served, with 28 women treated with disabilities, 10%.

The municipal comprehensive care resource, EMAVI, is accessed either directly by going to the team, or by appointment, or derived by other agencies, entities or institutions, among which is the General Directorate of Women, which derives part of the demands made through 112.

Other institutions and entities that can derive are the security forces and bodies, the Health and Hospital Centers, the Social Services Centers, the courts and women's associations.

The specific objectives of comprehensive and specialized care are the following:

- Inform, guide and advise on the rights and resources available to women in situations of violence in the municipality of Murcia

- Carry out a socio-educational accompaniment that supports women in their decision-making process to get out of situations of violence and contribute to overcoming their problems.

- Provide psychological counseling that allows their independence and allows the emotional recovery of women to face an autonomous life.
