The Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, the Regional Library and the Cultural Association Teachers of Murcia (Acdomur) celebrate next Tuesday the closing of the 2018-2019 course of Reading Clubs of Social Centers for Seniors that have worked in the edition that now concludes.
This final course has registered a participation of 16 groups, with about 220 people, in addition to about 20 volunteers who coordinate and energize them.
The final act of the course will consist in the reading of certain texts selected by the clubs, from the Spanish Golden Age to the present, including, among other authors, Teresa de Jesús, Cervantes, Shakespeare, Bécquer, Vicente Medina, Miguel Hernández, Juan R. Jiménez, Saramago, Antonio Oliver, Machado and Benedetti, among others.

The operation of the clubs allows the biggest participants throughout the year to share the reading in a group, approaching the literary works in a guided way.
This is possible thanks to the volunteer work of the people who carry out the task of animation and coordination of the clubs and the Regional Library, which facilitates the collective loan.
Meanwhile, the Murcia City Council has a support and promotion function for the clubs, enabling the social centers for the elderly an enriching and cultural activity.
At the closing ceremony is expected the assistance of some 200 elderly people, who will be accompanied by councilors of the City Council, the general director of Cultural Heritage and the president of the Cultural Association of Teachers of Murcia (ACDOMUR).
The event will take place from 6 pm in the auditorium of the Regional Archive of Murcia.
