Now Murcia demands explanations from the mayor Ballesta for the lack of control of the agreement with the UCAM (16/04/2019)

- Now Murcia criticizes the lack of political will of the PP for the control and monitoring of the agreement with the UCAM, as well as the failure to comply with the motions approved in Plenary

From Now Murcia we have already warned on different occasions that the Agreement signed between the City of Murcia and the UCAM in 2005 for the free transfer of the enormous land of 135,000 square meters to the UCAM, located north of the Jerónimos Monastery and valued at more than 40 million euros, should have taken into account the public interest and the benefit of the municipality, which was never done.

According to the motion approved by all political groups of the City of Murcia in June 2018, the Convention does not contemplate the existence of a monitoring and evaluation commission for compliance, a matter that is not natural and nothing given to transparency since it has been provided to opacity and lack of control.

One of the stipulations of the Convention contemplates the possibility of resolving it for breach of any of the clauses and obligations contemplated therein, and determines that in case of breach of the obligation to allocate the land for the purposes set forth in said agreement the free transfer of the land will be considered resolved.

The political groups of the City of Murcia agreed in the Plenary that it was found that the land ceded no building was started within the time limits, so it could be considered that you may be breaking the clauses of the agreement.

The City Council, in this case represented by the mayor, must ensure compliance with the agreement signed and the proper end of the property transferred to the property, and could incur administrative breach if it does not enforce the clauses of the agreement or resolves the same, legal and timely manner, knowing that they have been breached.

For all this was approved in the plenary of June 2018 convene an urgent commission composed of representatives of each political group municipal legal services and assess the degree of compliance with the agreement signed by the City of Murcia and the University Foundation, and initiate legal proceedings timely, if necessary, to safeguard the legitimate interests of the City Council.

A commission that today almost a year later has never been constituted, thus failing to approve what was approved in the Plenary.

And this because the Popular Party with the mayor Ballesta at the head is clear that he has never had the will to set up such a Commission, that is, he has no will to look after the interests of the Murcia City Council, which are the interests of all Murcia.
